Apple watch velcro band

Hi, I bought my Apple watch in January 2020. The watch is fine, but very dissatisfied with the velcro strap. If it gets a little wet I have to remove the watch because it causes on my wrist and it takes long time to dry. I contacted Apple watch Customer Services, what a dreadful service by the way, and the guy said they WILL NOT replace it because the strap is not meant to be water proof. How could that be? A 350 pounds watch with a wrist band that is not water proof? Can someone tell me if they had the same experience with their watch? By the way my watch is under guarantee. Last time I buy items from this company. I was expecting better service.
