Why does iPhone vibrate randomly?

I have an iPhone 7 and my phone randomly vibrates. I have checked my settings and none of my apps have just the sounds notifications on. What is going on?

Hey Rlberg,

Thanks for your reply, we appreciate it!

If you're just not able to find what is making the vibration, let's make sure it's not the vibration motor acting up. The best way to do that, is to first back up your iPhone. Then restore the iOS using your computer and set it up as new, just for testing.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

**Set it up as new, not from your backup.**

Test to see if it happens again. If not, then restore from your backup to see if the issue returns.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If the issue returns when set up as new, contact Apple Support, you may have an issue with the vibration motor.

If the issue only returns after restoring from your backup, then there is something within your personal data which is causing the issue.

Enjoy your day!

Hi Rlberg,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you have a question about vibration with your iPhone, and I'd like to do what I can to help out.

Your iPhone has various settings which can be set to vibrate. Such as when the iPhone is in Silent mode, or Notifications. Here's some information which can help you determine why.

How to put your iPhone on vibrate, ring, or silent mode

Notice how you can have notifications for some items like New Mail set to Vibrate Only.

Keep in mind, the vibration motor should not be triggered without a setting enabled.

Also, have you restarted your iPhone recently? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unusual issues.

Restart your iPhone

Make note of what happens when you notice the vibration, such as did you receive a text message, phone call or notification from an app? That will help to determine which setting needs to be looked at.

Take care!
