Try an SMC reset. If your laptop has USB-C ports, then go to the section for T2 systems. If your built-in keyboard has a hardware failure, then this is unlikely to work. Unfortunately the SMC reset can only be performed using the built-in keyboard.

If you are able to boot the laptop, then try using an external keyboard. If the external keyboard works, then it confirms your built-in keyboard is defective and needs repaired.

If none of this helps, then you will need to get the laptop repaired. While the Apple Stores are closed for at least another week you may be able to find a local Apple Authorized Service Provider which is open.

Perhaps you can contact the virtual school to see if they can provide you with a laptop.

This "keyboard not found" issue seems to be a bug and sometimes happens to my Mac too, which I'm currently investigating.

usually, just let it do its work. don't do anything, and usually it resolves by itself and the pop-up goes away and I would be able to use my keyboard and trackpad again.
