Wireless keyboard not connecting

I've got an Apple wireless keyboard (I don't think it's magic because it's got the round power button on the side), and it gets discovered by my MacBook Air, but when I click connect, it says it's not able to. I've connected another wireless keyboard and mouse before, so I don't know what's wrong! The Apple keyboard has been paired to stuff before, but what it's been paired to is currently in a different country, so it's really not connected to that. Any advice??

I have this problem too, same keyboard but on my MBP 2018 running 10.15.4. The only way I have found to fix it temporarily is to reset bluetooth

Option + Shift click on bluetooth in menu bar

Debug > Remove all devices.

Option + Shift click again, then Debug > Reset the Bluetooth module

This fixes the problem for me for a few days but then it comes back. Also it means that I have to reconnect all of my devices again which is really annoying. Any suggestions for a more permanent solution?
