My wireless trackpad is hardly too sensitive. I have checked the battery charge and have gone into preferences and rechecked settings there. It is so sensitive that sometimes all I have to do is have my finger "hover" over it (about ½ inch above) for it to "click"

Make sure "Tap to click" is unchecked in the "Point & Click" tab of Trackpad system preference.
Apple should have made clear that "Tap to click" was in place of "Press to click", which requires pushing down on the surface, not just touching it.
"Tap to click" was useful on the previous version of the trackpad, which was hard to press on the top section. Pressing hard enough to click would make it difficult to drag while pressed. It did take some practice, though, to avoid unintentional clicking.
Counterintuitive BUT it seems to have correc to Ed the issue. Thanks so much—it was driving me crazy
