In app purchase

I am trying to make an in app purchase, I put a $50 gift card on my apple ID balance. It will not let me use it without using a family plan payment method (I am not in contact but do not want to leave the family plan). I added my own payment method and it is not coming up. How do I use my apple ID balance?

Normally, charges will be deducted from the account balance before the organizer's credit card is charged. The organizer's card has to be there in case the purchase price plus applicable taxes exceeds your account balance.
