How can I stop the iPad keyboard from appearing in Notes when I am writing with an Apple pencil and the side of my hand touches the screen?

That worked once, but I can't keep rebooting when I'm in the middle of class. Putting a cloth coaster under my hand is the most reliable!
The keyboard keeps popping up when I am reading an article or streaming, (temporary fix is going to the address and bar then the keyboard will show the down arrow to recede the keyboard. This issue has been going on for months and Apple has not work on a fix.
