Airpods Pro transparency/noise cancelling sound distorted/crackling

My left airpod pro when in transparency/noise cancelling mode have this constant distorted sound that happens whenever I talk or even if I just move. I figured maybe the mic's were damaged but when I record myself talking the playback isn't distorted. What's this issue and how can I fix it? I've unpaired and repaired them to no avail. I have an iPhone 7, MacBook Pro, and an iPad Pro and the issue is constant between all devices. I don't know what the issue is here, because by what I can tell, it's not the microphones failing and audio playback sounds fine. I've even switched out the ear tips to see if that was the issue and nothing. Please help because Apple stores are currently closed and I paid a lot of money for these, and the last thing I want to be told is to spend even more money because of faulty hardware or software issues.
