Using iMac display on MacBook

Hello,

I have an old iMac (2015, i5 3.2Ghz, 1Tb SSD, 16Gb) and a new MacBook 15 inches.

Both runs the latest MacOS Catalina, but the iMac became really to slow, event after re-formatting and re-installing the Apps from scratch.

My question:

Is it possible to use the display of the iMac as a second (or primary) display of the MacBook?

no, https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-an-imac-as-a-display-mh30822/mac

Note: Target Display Mode isn’t supported on iMac models with Retina display. Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode.

Target Display Mode support in macOS ended with High Sierra.

Provided you are on Gigabit Ethernet, or sufficiently fast wireless — enable System Preferences : Sharing : Screen Sharing on the iMac, and use the Screen Sharing application on the MBP by requesting connection to iMac.local, where your iMac hostname replaces iMac in this context. This is Virtual Network Computing (VNC) and you can control the iMac via the keyboard and trackpad on the MBP. Drag and drop is also supported with the Screen Sharing application which is located in:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications

and can be dragged and dropped on your Dock, and configured to stick there. This is what I do.
