Hello,

First, you can check your battery status in the Settings app through Setting > Battery > Battery Health. Any level under 80% indicates that you could very well experience battery problems due to aging of the battery.

If your battery starts draining much faster after a software update and the battery health is fine, you could try restoring your iPhone using Finder (on a Mac) or iTunes (on a PC). You can find instructions on how to do that at:

Please ensure you first make a backup in iCloud so you can restore it after restoring the iPhone.

When I updated the iOS on my iPhone 11 and my iPad Pro, the iPhone 11 functioned as it normally did. The iPad Pro, however, had exceptionally fast battery drain and laggy performance. I did a complete reset and restore (after a 5 hour iCloud backup) and I still had issues. I then did a hard reset with the power and the home button and it’s been working fine ever since. Over two days now. I would highly recommend you try that to see if it works for you.

As I mentioned previously, I updated my iOS to 13.4 on both my iPhone 11, and my 2018 iPad Pro 10.5 inch at the same time. The iPhone 11 had no issues whatsoever after the update. But the iPad Pro experienced massive battery drain from 100% down to 5% in two or three hours.

after reading a few of the posts on this thread, I did the following. I first performed a hard reboot holding down the power in the home button until the Apple logo reappeared. To no avail. Then I decided to delete apps that I haven’t used in over a year. There was probably 20 to 25 apps that I deleted from my device. I then tried another hard reboot, once again to no avail.

so then I decided to do an iCloud back up of the device which took over five hours, at which point I then did a full reset of the device. I used my iCloud back up to restore the device, at which point I still had the battery drain issue. Out of frustration, I performed another hard reboot on the device. When my iPad Pro came back up, the issue was solved. No more battery drain issues. I wish I knew why, But I actually don’t. You might want to try the same procedure on any of your devices that are experiencing the same problem. Obviously no guarantees it will work. I guess sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. I hope Apple figures it out soon and provides an update. My thinking is it might’ve been one of the many apps I deleted that was causing the problem. But I’m not going to start reloading them to find out! Good Luck.

Hi, I am still in process trying to fix it. If you haven’t done those steps yet it’s worth trying:

  1. Drain your battery till 0% and let the device turn off Itself, plug it in and check if starts charging from 1% if not repeat the same procedure until starts from 1%
  2. Connect to proper WiFi and let the device back up all the information, either automatically or you set it manually, make sure it’s done completely before you take the device away from WiFi source
  3. Do a hard reset: for iPhone 6s up to 8 hold power button and lock button for 20 seconds, for iPhone X and above press and release volume up then volume down and then press and hold power button for about 30 seconds until you see Apple logo on screen.

Hopefully you get your battery draining sorted and no heating anymore.

Regards

Refuze how much you want, i personally I have 1 iphone, 4 iPads, and and 1 apple watch all of wich experienced the battery drain immediately after the 13.4 update and until yesterday when i received the 13.4.1 and 6.2.1 for the watch. Again immediately after the update all devices resume to normal battery usage and work as before no changes nothing deleted. The fact that all my devices behaved the same and that after the new update resumed back to normal immediately can only mean that there was a glitch in the ios.

The phone is doing things in the background and therefore becomes hot and will consume battery power. As witnessed with previous updates, it’s probably re-organizing the file structure so provide for more efficient file access and system efficiency. Just continue to use as normal and charge as needed. It will subside in a couple days and things should return to normal.

I had this on my XSmax which improved after a few days, but never seemed as good as pre-13.4. However, with 13.4.1 it’s been even better than before...just hang in there

I put my phone into lockdown and still got the battery drain. By lockdown I mean everything was disabled, I even signed out from iCloud. I didn't even have mobile data enabled in the first place because I'm on PAYG.

However after at least 3 restore phone as new with no recovery of apps or data, prolonged time on low power mode, it got better. I'm now adding my apps again one by one. This kind of behaviour is a nightmare to investigate.

is that the reason why my phone give me 3hrs on screen time with sim but data off and give me about 8hrs with wifi but no sim

You noted above that you have a poor cellular signal. That will use up battery very quickly. That is expected behavior. Rather than take the SIM out, put the phone in Airplane mode and turn WiFi back on.

I think I may have isolated the problem at least for some iPhone models. This is only day one though.

Another poster commented about an issue with a SIM card and LTE which didn't make much sense to me except that if 13.4.1/13.5 contained a modem issue that was draining battery.

I had VoLTE (Voice over LTE) turned OFF but it seems that iOS 13's new menu system turned this back on. Turning VoLTE Off (Settings > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data > LTE, VoLTE Off) seems to have improved the battery today although I have not used the device as much today. However, I am not seeing the dramatic IDLE battery loss as I was before.

It may be a starting point so please try turning VoLTE off and reporting your findings to all of us. If we find that this is the issue maybe we can submit a more detailed bug report. (For iPhones or perhaps iPads that have an LTE modem -- which would require LTE off entirely if this was the same problem)...

So, I have two suggestions:

Turn off VoLTE if you have the option. See how the device operates over the next 24 hours.

If you have an iPad/don't have a VoLTE option, turn off LTE and see how the device operates over the next 24 hours.

Let us know if this solves anything at all and then we may find the source of this bug.

I can help you with that, have iOS 13.4, but I am having a little battery drain, make sure mobile data is off drains your goddamn battery like crazy, make sure background that profession is off, make sure you have low power mode on, make sure that you don’t have apps like Facebook or other apps that use your location as it may drain your battery like dam well, Make sure that you have auto lock set for 30 seconds, make sure that you have the latest version of iOS, try turning off your phone, in your phone, what iPhone do you have, connected to iTunes and restore it to factory or faults noted if you have iCloud on you must know your Apple ID password because activation lock will be stuck off/on you’ll be able to do an iCloud or iTunes back up I’ll probably bother, hope this helps

Right rather than the platitude from above, lets start with some genuine testing and assessment.

  1. What iphone model are you using ?
  2. What software are you running and how many of those to you allow to run in the back ground ?
  3. Do you use the phone on Wifi and/or are you in a good or poor G4 signal area - Look at the bars
  4. How often do you charge - Do you connect to a car kit and if so is it Bluetooth or wired ?
  5. Have you ever jailboken (Honestly ?) or installed an IPA
  6. Is all your software updated and optimised for 13.4 (Probably not)
  7. What sort of regime do you employ for charging -allow the phone go dead or top up ?
  8. Do you use a Qi wireless charger - Some of these make the phone overheat and will reduce battery life
  9. Has youR phone ever got hot and switched itself off - Will damage battery and significantly reduce serviceability
  10. Go to Settings , Battery, Battery Health - What is the stated Maximum capacity . Does it say Peak performance Yes/no something else ? Is Optimised Battery charging on or off ?
  11. Did you update over air or via a PC/Mac

Give me the answers to as many of the above honestly and we might be able to get somewhere

iOS 13.4 is not routinely ruining batteries and indeed its probably the first update of 13 to have generally remained pretty stable
