Everyone that has this issue, please send Feedback to Apple about this.

1) Go to this link for iPhone: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Or this link for iPad: https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

2) Put your name and email.

3) Put the subject something like "iOS/iPadOS 13.4.1 Major Battery Issues" or something similar.

4) Mark the Feedback type as a "Bug Report".

5) Briefly discuss it. iOS/iPadOS 13.4.1 doesn't show up under the dropdown for "Which version iOS are you using" yet so either leave it blank or just use 13.4.

Submit it.

I have never experienced battery draw in any previous iOS update before 13.4 on any of 3 previous iPhones. But since installing 13.4 my battery on my XR it started to drain to Zero overnight while I slept. Prior to 13.4 my battery could last up to two days. Something is drastically wrong. Since last Friday I have done the following which I am finding very helpful.

  1. Deleted the Fox News app as it was consuming a lot of battery without being used.
  2. Turned off Siri for the same reason.
  3. Turned off every app's Show Siri Suggestions and Learn from App options.
  4. Changed all Fetch New Data settings to Manual and changed from Automatic to every 30 minutes. I left Push on. I discovered my Contacts were consuming a lot of battery without being accessed.
  5. Turned off all Background Refreshes.

Little by little I continue to delete and turn off functions to stop the draw. Before iOS 13.4 all of these features and functions worked just fine. There is something amiss with this iOS update.

Hope this helps with troubleshooting.

I agree in addressing the specifics. When my battery drain problem stated the Fox News app was showing 63% Activity and I had not accessed the app since before 13.4 was installed. My Contacts were showed 35% Activity so I started to address these two. As I mentioned previously, I deleted the Fox News app and then Contacts shot up to 71% when I looked at the Battery usage. So I took the steps listed below. That was yesterday and my battery is holding a charge similar to before 13.4 was installed. At this moment my Contacts are consuming 61% with a usage of 1 minute on screen. This does not seem right.

Right rather than the platitude from above, lets start with some genuine testing and assessment.

  1. What iphone model are you using ?
  2. What software are you running and how many of those to you allow to run in the back ground ?
  3. Do you use the phone on Wifi and/or are you in a good or poor G4 signal area - Look at the bars
  4. How often do you charge - Do you connect to a car kit and if so is it Bluetooth or wired ?
  5. Have you ever jailboken (Honestly ?) or installed an IPA
  6. Is all your software updated and optimised for 13.4 (Probably not)
  7. What sort of regime do you employ for charging -allow the phone go dead or top up ?
  8. Do you use a Qi wireless charger - Some of these make the phone overheat and will reduce battery life
  9. Has youR phone ever got hot and switched itself off - Will damage battery and significantly reduce serviceability
  10. Go to Settings , Battery, Battery Health - What is the stated Maximum capacity . Does it say Peak performance Yes/no something else ? Is Optimised Battery charging on or off ?
  11. Did you update over air or via a PC/Mac

Give me the answers to as many of the above honestly and we might be able to get somewhere

iOS 13.4 is not routinely ruining batteries and indeed its probably the first update of 13 to have generally remained pretty stable

Hi, I am still in process trying to fix it. If you haven’t done those steps yet it’s worth trying:

  1. Drain your battery till 0% and let the device turn off Itself, plug it in and check if starts charging from 1% if not repeat the same procedure until starts from 1%
  2. Connect to proper WiFi and let the device back up all the information, either automatically or you set it manually, make sure it’s done completely before you take the device away from WiFi source
  3. Do a hard reset: for iPhone 6s up to 8 hold power button and lock button for 20 seconds, for iPhone X and above press and release volume up then volume down and then press and hold power button for about 30 seconds until you see Apple logo on screen.

Hopefully you get your battery draining sorted and no heating anymore.

Regards

Things are going a bit better with my iPhone 8.

The symptoms were the following : my iPhone was rebooting everyday while the battery level was much more than 50%, without switching to saving mode.

And then, after rebooting, it was around 10% 🤔.

I managed to let it go to the end of power, and then only, I charged it again fully.

Now, it’s going much better :

  • battery is draining much slower,
  • my iPhone is no longer rebooting,
  • it switches to saving mode normally.

Second solution I found to avoid battery draining so fast : I switch to saving mode immediately after a full charge !

Back ground activity is consuming a lot especially for some apps, like Instagram.

I used to charge my iPhone 11 Pro Max every other day. But after updating to iOS 13.4 and continue to iOS13.5.1 my battery was draining in 24 hours, even with lesser usage. So I did some experiments:

  1. Turned of Google maps running in background.
  2. I turned off some Background App Refresh on 75% of my apps. I left only the ones I need the most
  3. I set the Background App Refresh to WiFi only, it used to be both WiFi and Cellular

Under Settings and Battery I noticed that App Store was showing over 50% of battery usage, so I thought it was the reason, but senior advisor from Apple said that this reading doesn't mean its using the battery. That made me wonder if it doesn not meant anything why it is there. I thought maybe because of the watch syncing? Because my second iPhone RX that has no watch doesn't even show the App Store usage.

So I am testing and so far so good, Morning 100% and at 9PM its showing 74% Verses, before was close to 20%.

Going to add my XS Max to this list of battery issues after updating to 13.4. Prior to 13.4, I didn’t experience any real issues. Now I leave my phone charging over night and wake up to 29% battery life. Even right now my phone is in a Smart Charing Case, and my phone battery life is draining 5% over the last half hour while my Smart Charging case sits at 100%. I had none of these issues prior to 13.4.

It’s not your battery - but if this constant power drain continues then it will be!

My Iphone X now runs hotter and discharges in about 5 hours. The battery is reported as working at 93% efficiency. By the way, its killing my ipad too!

lets hope Apple fix it soon as I doubt they will replace the batteries for free.

Ios 13.4.1 was installed where the graph starts on the left, you can see the battery level droppi ng as soon as it was installed. The graph then shows it charging and again dropping like a stone. Interestingly, I wonder why the light blue bars have shot up so high...

I have a three year old iPhone7 128Gb. I don’t know if I am lucky or what. Battery Health is only 77% so I don’t expect miracles. I installed IOS 13.4 and immediately ran into battery problems. I reset the iPhone and restored the Apps from backup. Didn’t see a noticeable improvement and then saw 13.4.1 was available. Installed that without wiping. Saw a marginal improvement. Noticed that Mail was consuming a lot of battery. Installed Gmail app and disabled Mail. All looked good for a day or two and then Gmail started to use a lot of Battery. Deleted Gmail App, re-activated Mail for my Gmail  and over the last three days, battery performance has been OK with Mail consuming no more than expected. Currently 10:00 in evening and battery still at 53%. See attached for battery performance.

You're right its not all devices some iPhones do not have the battery issue but they do have other problems, some of which I am also experiencing. No OS-IOS is perfect but Apple designated my iPhone, an original SE (basically a 6S with an A9 I believe) as being compatible with IOS 13 but quite clearly its not. I guessing the problem has something to do with the code & certain chip sets in different models & even different chip sets within the same model.

I can tell you now that Apple know about the problem & yesterday I upgraded to 13.4.5B & guess what, no change.

I don't think they are really interested in fixing the problem especially with older models if it means that all the new features they are deploying for newer models look good.

Normally I would agree about certain apps, services causing the problem but as I mentioned in an earlier post I did a flat restore with the latest stable version of 13 at the time & with no other apps or config loaded it was virtually no better than it is with all my apps, mail etc.

Screen shot below shows my iPhone several minutes after a reboot in low power mode & airplane mode turned on with no other apps loaded other than the one measuring the cpu, memory, battery.

It's not normal for the cpu to be running at about 95% & memory at 98% when basically its doing nothing.

If I run the same test on my old iPad mini on IOS12 then the cpu is at about 45% & memory at 70%. Luckily for me its not able to run 13.

I have an iPhone 8, it’s only 18 months old ... battery health before this update was 96%. After this update it’s showing 86%. If I use TikTok for about ten minutes I can go from 100% charged to 10% in those ten minutes.

With my other iPhones I’ve never had battery problems before ...

I’m not sure whether to get the battery replaced once lockdown is over.

I have tended to charge the phone daily in the evening.
