After 10.15.4 the camera stopped working

HI friends!

Yesterday I updated my 12-inch Mac to 10.15.4 and the camera stopped working.

It fully disappeared from the system as if it didn't exist.

When I started Zoom, it asked me for permission to use the camera, I allowed. In the settings tab, there is no camera to choose from the drop list.

Other applications also show no camera.

Even in the Application (System report) there is no camera.

It might be related to the new update, I don't know.

You may have some solutions how check if this case is reparable or I have to wait for another update to fix that bug.

Thank you

I doubt this is a hardware issue. My camera was working just fine with10.15.3; after 10.15.4 it disappeared. In the system report, if you examine the USB tree, you can see the camera reporting itself just fine. If you look in "camera", it's not there. So, some framework that bridges between the physical USB camera and the logical camera is broken with 10.15.4.

I would recommend Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test will take a little longer as caches get rebuilt.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Typically if "System report) there is no camera." this would indicate is a hardware issue.

Take it in—

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"—

Just another restart and my camera is back. There is something unstable with 10.15.4. I have not tried re-applying the update.

There was a supplemental update— this may or may not cause/fix the issue(?)

Hi friends!

Thank you so much for your assistance and support.

The first thing I tried to do was fully re-installing the system (then I really found it to be the best solution, because I am a Windows user, too - there we used to solve such issues by re-installing the driver or, finally, the whole system).

And I had luck - the camera is on. By now I don't know what the matter was, but the above helped me.

Thank you once again.
