Verifying MS Word at application launch, why am I getting this message? It never used to happen. And can it be resolved?

It is Apple's Gatekeeper security checking that the application is not malware. There is a fix for that.


Before you launch MS Word, control/right-click on it and choose Open from the secondary menu. You should see a brief security progress bar, and then a dialog with an open button. Click open again, and you should no longer see a verifying panel when launching Word. You may have to do this with the other MS applications as a one-time ritual sense they did not come from the Mac App Store.
