iPod shuffle not being recognised

After deciding to use my iPod shuffle 4gen after possibly years of not using it, I ordered a new cable off ebay since I lost the original one and after trying to plug it in my macbook to use itunes I realised it's not being detected

I understand this is most likely due to the cable not being it's original, official apple one but is there any way to get past this as I won't really have any way of putting new songs on there
