Multitasking feature not working on ipadOS 13.4

Hi colleagues,

The multitasking feature in my iPad Pro is not working though it’s enabled. I updated my iPad to iPadOS 13.4 and still not working. I cannot make use of the split screen view at all. It’s frustrating when I have the feature and cannot make use of it. I searched for solutions and tried disabling/enabling, force restart and still doesn’t work. Any tips or clue why this is happening with me! iPad Pro 12.9 inch Wi-Fi

I’d highly appreciate helping me on this matter.

If a forced-restart did not resolve the issue, I suggest that you ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup.

When you are confident that your backup is current, reset all settings (noting that this will not delete your data):

Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

Before worrying unduly, let’s start with the basics. Is Multitasking actually enabled?

Settings > Home Screen & Dock > Multitasking >

Allow Multiple Apps - set to ON
Picture in Picture - Set to ON
Gestures - set to ON

If these settings are enabled, force-restart your iPad:

On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

After the reset, which will reset your dock to its default settings, you can select and drag Apps from your Home Screens to the dock.

Recently used Apps, unless they are resident on the dock, will always appear in the right-hand section of the dock.

Explain what happens when you try to slide an app icon up from the dock to get to open another app.

I am not seeing that at all on my iPad Air 3 running iOS 13.4. Try using a softer touch. Don’t press as hard on the icon.

Settings>Home Screen and Dock>More. Select more and see if that does anything.

I’d like to add that now my dock doesn’t hold more than 5 app icons. It used to hold more than that.

I can’t slide over from the right side at all. I can’t split the screen view between two apps.

Hope that helps in figuring out my situation>

Still not working!

I have to mention I tried forced re-start now for 4-5 times.

I have tried resetting all settings.

Now, my dock is not as before. I cannot move the app icons from the dock as before. They appear in the dock only after I’ve tried to open the app.

Thanks!

When I try to slide an app icon from the dock, the app moves up in a state ready to delete. All app icons on the screen appear with x sign on the top corner.

I don’t know! At the moment I cannot move out the app icon from the dock. The dock can only fit five apps at the same time.
