shortcut when writing: alt + alphabetical letters and numbers

hello community,

when i write something and i click alt + an alphabetical letter or number the result are symbols from an other language.

for ex.

alt + a = å

alt + b = ∫ etc.

alt + 1 = ¡

im asking myself if its possible to change that, to exchange the symbols with other ones.

bilingual keyboard i use English and Spanish in equal amounts and constantly switch back and forth using the language switcher icon, but mostly i only use 2 specific symbols from Spanish (ñ and ¿) as most messages dont require 100% correct grammar with Spanish accents etc. Is there a way for me to avoid switching back and forth so much, staying in English, and using character codes or ASCII or a short cut of some kind to bring up these 2 characters from an English keyboard?

Typing accented characters disappeared with 10.15.5 update. How do I turn it back on? I use the feature of holding down a key in order to type special characters very frequently due to using several languages. This feature suddenly disappeared with the 10.15.5 update yesterday. I need to turn it back on, as the other means to type characters is too clumsy for frequent typing. How do I do it?

Accent marks Menu on Mac (Order) When typing on a Mac if you need to enter characters with accent marks, the recommendation is to: In an app on your Mac, press and hold a key on the keyboard—for example, a—to display the accent menu. Select a character in the menu—for example, á type 2 However for ó you need to type 4 and 3 for í. Is it possible to rearrange the order of the Menu so that the typical accents á, é, í, ó, ú appear ALWAYS as the first option (hold letter + 1). Besides this issue I prefer the English layout of the Keyboard so It's not practical to change it as I need to type both in English and Spanish. Seems it should be possible as it's not practical to remember multiple combinations

A common way to do that is to make a custom keyboard with the app Ukelele.
