Kernel panic sleep Catalina 15.4

Hi,

Ever since upgrading to Catalina 15.4 4 days back. Getting a sleep kernel panic. System restarts evertime I wake it from sleep.

Its to the level I am afraid of putting it to sleep any longer.

I am on 16" Macbook pro, and using since 3 months and Issue never came before 15.4 update

To be sure - this is a know issue with 15.4, it's a SOFTWARE issue and it's in Apple's bug tracker. Don't send your system back, simply disable Power Nap and you are fine. While 15.5 beta 1 doesn't fix it yet, I assume it may be addressed as soon as beta 2 (and then the GM).

I had the exact same issue, brand new MBP 16 inch with upgraded graphics card. Sent it back for a full replacement and after it going to sleep for a few hours (plugged in) SAME EXACT PROBLEM again!

This is ridiculous, sorry I don't have an answer, but I feel your pain. I totally disagree this is an issue with 3rd party apps or extensions because with the original machine I had, I wiped it clean and still had the problems.

I’m curious to get your thoughts on why it might be the AMD driver (or hardware)?

Forcing the OS to use integrated only didn’t seem to improve anything for me.

that being said, I will concede there is some definite flakiness with TB3 devices.

i have another identical MBP I just received Monday. Virgin setup with only iCloud and 10.15.3 running. No KPs during sleep, but also doesn’t seem to stay asleep. Also, it did KP a few minutes after detaching it from TB3 LG 5K display.

I honestly am struggling to find a workable scenario.

No crash. The only „strange” thing is that I can turn it on only with power button. But as long as Touch ID is there no brainer at all.

That’s why I am wondering return or not. People in other thread told me “don’t live in fear return only small percentage have problem”. If it is hardware issue I will return even tomorrow. If it is software it doesn’t matter if it is new or used machine. Bug can appear every time you install new system or update. That’s how it works. People may return their machine and tell “hey the new one works well” but still it could be related to soft. New machine means same soft but different installation process maybe without bug

I fully understand you but on the other hand what will you do in the future? Will you stuck with this one and only soft? I don't think so.

If you upgrade and error occurs again it will be clear info that it is soft issue. It will be good info because probably you will be able to fix it or better word hide it with some fixes. Then you will wait for update which solves this problem.

Do you use Parallels?

Brand new 2020 13" 4 thunderbolt, 32GB ram macbook pro.

Observed first crash with 10.14. Updated to 10.15 and still crashing.

Computer crashes *every* time I attempt to use mission control or spaces. Mission control works in safe mode. PRAM/NVRAM/ SMC resets do not fix.

I was able to fix one time by creating a new user account, logging into that account and then returning to primary account.

Seems related to external monitor use, but I cannot seem to fix the problem this time. Computer is basically unusable.

Frequent kernel panics. Removed all third party kexts and problem persists.
