2ndGen Pencil (fully charged, bluetooth paired) has no effect on iPad screen

My 2ndGen pencil charges, pairs via bluetooth, and has a fresh tip, yet... it has no effect upon the iPad screen.

This problem developed while using the app Procreate. Within the span of a minute, the pencil stopped correctly registering pressure, and the cursor leapt about as if the iPad could not locate it hovering above. Finally, the cursor disappeared altogether and the pencil, despite charging, despite connecting via bluetooth, stopped working.

I have happily used this pencil for 1.5 years with no problems until now. I have tried everything to fix it – forgetting and re-pairing via bluetooth, restarting the iPad, replacing its tip. What do I do now?
