Java doesn’t work on Catalina

I installed Catalina a few days ago now java doesn’t even work. I tried to use a .jar file for something and it doesn’t give me an option to open with Java. Is there a way to fix this?

Update Path to Java I have Catalina 10.15. I installed JDK 8 and I know it works because I have access to LibraOffice database. But Netbeans 8.2 won't install and complains that JDK8 is not installed. But I notice in Terminal that Catalina path to Java is as follows: /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java I also noticed that the actual Java Path in the System Preferences > Java Control Panel is as follows: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java (lacking the slash after Internet. Can I update that path to follow Catalina's preferred path? Or is there another work around?

If you were using Apple's legacy Java 6, it is 32-bit.

You'll need to download a JDK from Oracle.
