How to back-up a broken phone?

The front of my IPhone XR is completely smashed but the phone itself seems to still turn on (when I press the on button the screen sort of lights up, you can kind of see it in the picture - bottom left corner of phone). I tried connecting it to my macbook but it keeps disconnecting over and over again. Even when it does connect I have to approve the connection on the phone and obviously the screen doesn't work. Is there anyway I can restore my photos, contacts, apps? Can I get that data back on a new phone?

You won’t be able to backup your iPhone. Saying this, note that, unless you have deliberately disable it, when you are signed in on your iPhone to the iCloud account, the device automatically is making periodic backups. iCloud backup (if any) might not include data originated between time when last backup was made and when the incident has occurred.
