kernel panic on MBP 16

I have experienced some kernel panics on every standby on my new MBP 16 with i7 processor since last update. Apple remote assistance services re now closed due to convid emergency. I feel a bit left alone. I have restored completely the OS but this did not solve the problem. I post a screenshot of the report.

Seems a power nap issue. Turning off power nap in energy control prevents from the kernel panic shown above for MBP16 in my case. Did several tests with and without power nap. I tested with automatic restart in the morning at 4 am. It always produces a kernel panic with power nap on and never produced a kernel panic with power nap off. I've done this with the latest updates. I have attached a Thunderbolt 3 dock from OWC. It worked until some of the software upgrades. Therefore I do not believe it is a hardware issue.

I had the same issues and for the last 24H, they seem to be gone for now.

This is what I did:

  • SMC Reset
  • NVRAM Reset
  • Fresh Install

And also I changed the USB-C to HDMI cables I was using for my 2 TV's that I use as monitors.

With one set of cables I had a multitude of crashes (cables worked fine on my MBP 2017), now I'm using UGREEN cables and the issues seem to be gone. (there are a few articles about incompatible chipsets, for HDMI conversion, inside those cables with the new TB3 chip used in the 2019 MBP's)

Still holding off for a while before I close the issue completely but I spend an hour on the phone with Apple Support who finally decided it was best to replace my machine, it is only 4 days old.

I have now gone 7-8 weeks without a Kernel Panic issue since Apple replaced my Logic Board. I no longer have to turn off any of the system preferences listed in many of the posts in this thread (ie. Automatic Graphics Switching, Enable Power Nap, Put Hard Drive to Sleep when Possible, Prevent Computer from Sleeping Automatically when the Display is off). Appears to be a Logic Board Issue with the 2019 16" MacBook Pro.

Hi everybody, I have an update: I found out I did not a ore per restore of the entire OS since I was using recovery mode and not internet recovery mode.

today I restored again by using the internet recovery mode and now the issue seems solved. I know it’s radical, I obviously did not restore any backup such as Time Machine because this would probably bring back the issue but now it seems solved. I am restoring all the apps but only a couple at time, while letting the Mac go into deep sleep in between each to make sure I isolate an app that might cause the issue. I will write you again in a few days to update.

Had a similar issue during hibernation when the computer would wake from sleep, but it would restart instead. The kernel panics started to pop up so I talked to Apple Support on the phone. AFter some troubleshooting myself, I’ve narrowed down the issue to the Intel UHD integrated GPU was causing the issue, therefore I called Apple Support. The lady on the phone told me that she was a “senior” in her position and told me that it couldn’t be the logic board that’s causing the issue.

No help.

Dropped it off at a Micro Center and received my MacBook Pro back today after an incredible turnaround time and Apple replaced both the Logic Board and the Touch ID Board per work order. If you have these hibernation related panics, ship that sucker in.

I can confirm that 10.15.5 reintroduced the problem. With 10.15.4 i disabled Power Nap AND enabled it again and the problem disappeared. I have runned for 6 weeks without any problems. Totally stable.

Yesterday i updated to 10.15.5 and BUM Kernel Panic again. It sucks. Will try to disable power nap and se if it helps.

Apple come on... you must have 10.000 reports by now.

Same here, wake from deep sleep, causes the issues. Post 10.15.4 update, the behavior changed. Connected to CalDigit TS3plus dock and LG UltraFine wake up got somehow stable. Working mobile, from battery, wake up is having issues, which was not the case before.

BTW, with the "blank" test account I created today, it seems stable. Have not noticed anything. Guessing, some extensions from CleanMyMac causing the problem.

Will observe further and keep posting.

Cheers, Nils.
