Sharing DVD video on Zoom Teleconferencing App on MacOS

Hmm interesting. That's what we did as well - we had the DVD in an external drive and hooked up to the laptop. We then downloaded VLC and selected to open/play the DVD that shows up on your desktop/in Finder using VLC. Once we did that, sharing the screen with Zoom worked fine without anything being blocked/grayed out.

I had the same issue trying to share a video on my Mac via Zoom share. I downloaded VLC media player and selected to play the video on that, and it worked great! It also works with DVDs too.

It can't be done due to the rights protection built into the DVD Player app. This means that it can't be shared nor have screenshots make of the screen. Is the video DVD a commercial DVD or one the you created?

Use the VLC Player instead.

I had the same problem. Sharing a DVD in an external drive during zoom. The screen showed the video until "share screen" and then it went gray, as described. I solved the problem by hitting the ESC key. That was it.

Open VLC media player, drag the DVD movie from your desktop onto the VLC app. This should open the movie.

That said, is this a commercial DVD? If so, it's probably blocked from being shared due to copyright issues.

It is not legal for you to share a commercial DVD video stream with anyone else.

Sharing a DVD through a Zoom meeting is possible with the exception of copyright material. You see, DVD publishers (Warner Bro’s., Sony Pictures, etc) have been battling copywriter violators for ages. They’ve gotten pretty good at encrypting their DVDs so they cannot be shared to masses. That is what you are running into if you see a grey screen when you try this over Zoom.

Even self created video DVDs can't have screenshots made of the screen at any time. I would also expect the sharing would be the same as it's a function of DVD Player.

I had this issue. You can try opening the VOB file (in the VIDEO_TS folder) directly from the DVD in VLC player. This worked sometimes and not others.
