Email and virus

I tried to delete a suspicious email and accidentally opened it. It has now disappeared and I’m worried it’s a virus. I don’t want to open any apps like my banking one. How can I tell if my phone has been infected by a virus? I didn’t download or respond to it in anyway, simply went back to my inbox to delete it and it was gone.
