Thank you for the followup.

Try the Following:

Deselect Safari in iCloud:

First Off: Disable iCloud syncing between your Web browsers. Even if using just one Web browser, this is syncing across all devices through iCloud. So, try disabling the syncing.

Two Thoughts:

  • On your OS X Device (Your MacBook): Open: Apple menu
  1. Select: System Preferences
  2. Select: iCloud
  3. Disable: Safari

  • On your iOS Device (i.e. iPhone):
  1. Open: Settings
  2. Tap: [Your Apple ID] (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud (Third-Item Down)
  4. Deselect: Safari (Seventh Item Down)

Few Last Thoughts:

  • Try Forcedly Deleting these Items:
  1. Close: Safari (Use “Force Quit...” in the Apple Menu)
  2. Open: Terminal
  3. Type: cd ~/Library/Safari
  4. Press: enter
  5. Type: rm History.db History.db-lock
  6. Press: enter
  7. Close: Terminal
  8. Open: Safari again and see if it still occurs.

  • Scan your Mac for Malware:

Use MalwareBytes for Mac --- This is software that searches for malware/adware. So, scan with it and then remove what is found. Once removed, uninstall MalwareBytes for Mac. Then restart the Mac.

Downloads:

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
  2. Malwarebytes uninstaller

Try Booting Up in Safe Mode.

  • Clear all the cookies and cache while in that. Then, boot up normally. See if it all has all gone away, as it should have in the first place.

Done all that, problem returns as soon as normal operation is resumed. This is a bug in Safari which Apple need to fix PDQ.

Report this Bug to Apple:

Well, most certainly give feedback, if not done so already:

How To:

Using this link, report this as a bug in Safari by selecting Bug Report for the Feedback Type ,and filling out whatever else need be. Start Here: Feedback - Safari - Apple

After going Safari > Clear History > all history, when I return to a website, which requires a sign-in, I find i am still signed-in from the last session there.

When I check in Safari > Privacy > Manage Web Site Data, I find a mass of stuff from previous browsing sessions has not been cleared. After several attempts, this action will eventually clear all the old data. Something seriously wrong here!
