Sustain pedal doesn't work in Logic Pro X

I have a Yamaha P-35 digital piano. Every time I press down my sustain pedal with a logic session open, it plays an E3 note. Super annoying! In my MIDI monitor, the first time I press it it picks up both the sustain Hold Pedal 127 as well as Note on E3 127 and Note off E3 0. After that, when I keep pressing it, it only picks up the E3 note on 127 and note off 0.

I've looked at a lot of threads on this, and it seems like it might have something to do with creating a controller assignment in Logic Pro X, but I can't figure it out. Help!

You can go to the Upper left Logic Pro X menu select control surfaces, and Rebuild Defaults, immediately quit Logic, reboot the computer and try the P35. If that fails follow the same procedure then select Bypass All Control Surfaces.

While your in the Control Surface Menu take a look at control surface assignments and see if you see one directing sustain (Controller 64) to a note value.
