Unresponsive black screen when I use continuity markup.

When I click on the annotate button, my iPad responds with a unresponsive black screen, a grey bar at top with "Done" and the tools (pencil, eraser, etc). The tools respond to my apple pencil, but do not do anything to the black screen - nothing shows up on the iPad screen nor the document on my computer. Clicking "Done" on the iPad will exit out of the continuity markup, which tells me that the connection is made at the very least. Consistent with that is the fact that I can add a sketch from my iPad when not using the markup mode in a document. I've tried multiple PDF files and image files, but all have had the black screen issue.

Hey there IJTStrong,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re unable to annotate a file on your iPad as expected. I’ll be happy to help with this.

It sounds like you’ve done a good job isolating the issue by testing with multiple files. If you haven’t already, force close any apps open on your iPad and restart using the steps in these links:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPad

Make sure your iPad is up to date:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that doesn’t help, what app are you using to do this in? Delete the app from your iPad, restart, and install back on.

Let me know if this helps.
