iPad 2

I have two iPad 2 tablets. I don't have any use for them and wanted to donate them to a domestic violence shelter instead of recycling or selling them. I called the DV shelter and they said they would happily take them for kids to play games on, but, only if the tablets could be used without WiFi. The shelter has secured WiFi but only for the shelter staff computers and nothing else. So my questions are:

  • Is it possible to use an iPad 2 without WiFi?
  • Would someone have to create an Apple ID for access to the iPads and downloading free games?
  • Are there any games that can be played without WiFi?

First of all, before parting with the iPads for any reason, perform the following:

Here's is the problem with 7, 8 and 9-year old iPads, now.

These old iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen iPad Mini models are nearing 8 and 9-years old, now.

As of the beginning of 2019, many, MANY third party app developers are all more quickly and completely dropping older app support for all old 7, 8 and 9-year iPads that are running 2-3 year old and earlier iOS versions ( iOS 10 and earlier ).

Third party app developers are removing all of their older, legacy versions of their apps from Apple's App Store servers, now.

Older versions of apps are going to be gone for good, now!

Getting older versions of apps for these old iPad models, initially from Apple’s iOS App Store is getting very difficult and very problematic and this issue is getting, painfully, much worse in 2020, now!

These old iPads are now reaching their complete end of life and support and if re-initialised and attempt to be used as a new device, other than perhaps some third party basic apps, like third party Web browsers, some mail apps, some simple games/kids games ( not sure if these need WiFi, or not ), coloring book style apps for kids and adults, some basic drawing and sketching apps for kids and adults many of the most popular apps and games for iPad no longer are supported on older iPads and older iOS 9 and 10 versions, any longer.

Old iPads that can no longer be upgraded/updated will have NO MORE APPS AVAILABLE for initial download, at all, soon, from the Apple iOS App Store, for such old iOS devices in the very near future.

Older versions of apps for older iPads will be completely gone, very soon!

It maybe still possible to still find some apps and games that do not need WiFi and are still compatible with iOS 9 and earlier.

All are not completely gone, as yet.

Yes these iPad would need to be reset to factory settings and new Apple ID and passwords would need to be created for these iPads.
