Changed my Apple ID, but old email address shows in settings. CANNOT delete it!

I recently changed my Apple ID to reflect my current email address. I set up my first iPhone with an old email address and, if I remember correctly, many years ago you could not change your Apple ID once it was set. My Apple ID was a @gmail account address, which also populated the same name as an @icloud address...Or I set it that way years ago, I can't remember.

Either way, I changed my Apple ID, but now when I go to Settings, and click the very first box for "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store" it shows my photo, my name, and below my name is still the old, original @gmail account that was my Apple ID. If I click on "Name, Phone Numbers, Email" it shows my new email address for my Apple ID, my phone number for iMessage and FaceTime, and below that still shows my old email address as an @icloud.com account.

I logged into the appleid.apple.com site on my desktop and went to manage my account info, and it already showed my new Apple ID. From there, I went to iCloud Mail>Settings>Accounts and again, the old email address as an @icloud.com IMAP account (whatever that is) is there with no way to change it.

How do I completely get rid of this old email address? I want to officially, fully delete the email account but am afraid if I do it will somehow affect some operations on my Apple devices. I assume now that I changed my Apple ID that any and all emails will go to that address, but the fact that I can not get rid of this original email address, which still shows in different setting pages as an @gmail account and @icloud account, will screw something up.

Try going to Settings/Your Name where your picture shows, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then click Sign out. Then sign in with the new ID.

Eric,

Thank you, since posting I had finally figured that, along with a few other items to sign out/sign in with the new Apple ID. A few things still remain that I cannot seem to get rid of.

If I go to Settings>my name>iCloud>(scroll to the very bottom) Mail — it still shows under “ICLOUD ACCOUNT INFORMATION” My old email address with @icloud.com.

Also, if I go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive — it shows my phone number, new Apple ID email address, and STILL shows the old email address also as an @icloud.com account. Same thing on FaceTime.

I have signed out and back in to almost everything I can think ok with the new Apple ID but those few things still show up as an @icloud.com. I cannot seem to figure out anyway to change my @icloud.com name, or decide if I even need to?

If I go to Settings>Passwords & Accounts I am able to click on iCloud, which just brings me to the same Apple ID settings page when I click on my name in Settings. If I then click on iCloud and scroll all the way down there is clickable box labeled "Mail." If I click on that it opens a box with ICLOUD ACCOUNT INFORMATION, theres a line labeled "Name," which has my name and I am able to type in that box, below that is a line labeled "Email" which has my old email address an as @icloud.com name, and that cannot be edited or deleted or anything.

I have changed everything I can so far for my new Apple ID. Originally, when setting up my first iPhone, I used the same name for my Apple ID, which was an @gmail.com address, and to set up my iCloud account, @icloud.com. Everything that is Apple ID related (the @gmail.com account) I have signed out of and signed back in with the new email address / Apple ID name.

The only few places that still show the old email address are showing up in the form of @icloud.com. Those places are in Mail under iCloud in Settings...as a Send & Receive address in Messages and FaceTime, and if I log into iCloud Mail it is the only Account name in Settings>Accounts. But it says it is an "Alias email" and I am not given the option to delete it or edit the name.

My new email address, which is my new Apple ID. I have switched over to my new email address / Apple ID on all things like iCloud, Message, FaceTime, App Store...etc...but if I go to iCloud in settings and scroll all the way down to Mail, it shows ICLOUD ACCOUNT INFORMATION, and shows my old email address as *****@icloud.com If I go to Messages or Facetime and click on Send & Receive, it still shows my old email address as ******@icloud.com. If I log into iCloud Mail and go to accounts, it shows my icloud mail account as my old email address as ******@icloud.com. I have read some things that have said once you make an @icloud.com account for the first time, that first @icloud.com address cannot be removed or deleted.

Changed my Apple ID, but old email address shows in settings. CANNOT delete it!
