I had this problem too and I tried everything and nothing worked. I “chatted” online to an Apple person who very obligingly worked with me to troubleshoot a solution. We again tried everything: resets, airplane mode etc etc. then, he suggested I try another sim in the phone to see if it would work. I used my partner’s sim and it worked. The wheel stopped spinning and the toggle switch for turning in my Caller ID worked. Replacing the original SIM card showed the spinning wheel. The online Apple person concluded that the problem was the sim - or putting it another way- it was something my carrier needed to fix. So I immediately went to the carrier’s retail store at the local shopping centre. The customer assistant said it was just a matter of going into their app (which I had on my phone) and changing it there. Bingo! I now have my Caller ID toggle switch back in Settings on my phone and it is working perfectly.

Have the same problem and I discovered it is is WiFi related (one very specific WiFi network that I use), so I assume the issue is something to do with Phone over WiFi (Wi-Fi Calling).

My workaround that consistently works is either (1) Temporarily turn off WiFi or (2) Temporality put into AirPlane Mode then Show My Caller ID immediately works without hanging then re-enable

None of these suggestions worked for me. I have a solution that did work but it kind of stinks. You go into settings>general>reset>reset all settings. It works without having to backup and reinstall anything. You will have to redo all your other settings but you won’t lose any data or media on your phone. I bit the bullet and tried it because my setting was stuck in “off” and I was only getting the loading circle. So anytime I called family it would go directly to voicemail because they have the send unknown numbers to voicemail setting “on”. It was infuriating. Anyway. It worked for me. Good luck.

Turning off WIFI worked for me with my new SE 2020 - works for the spinning wheel problem with Show Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Call Forwarding. The SLIDER Button was not showing for any of theses phone features, just got the Spinning Wheel. Once the WIFI was turned off - by swiping up from bottom of screen and turning off - problem was resolved.

Have turned the WIFI back on and features are now still operational.

This looks like a problem that Apple needs to address in a sysytem update.

I have a iPhone 12 mini although I was advised by my carrier that this applies to all iOS devices. The issue relates to the method of signaling between the iOS device and the carrier's network. The device is looking for VoLTE functionality to change the setting instead of using 3G. For the record, I don't have this issue with any other handset so I wouldn't exclusively blame the carrier here.

They suggested, Either to turn off your mobile data via your device while making the change, or set mobile network settings to 3G only while making the change. It worked for me, hope it helps everyone else affected by this.

Hi mate,

similar to another response I switched my wifi off and it didn’t work. Tried aero plane mode and also hard reset; didn’t work.

I then switched my network off (the green one in the swipe down menu) and wallah!!! It stopped that little spinner right in its tracks and allowed me to turn my caller I.D back on.

hope this helps 👌🏼
