Have to force shutdown my Mac Book Pro

I can't shut down my Mac Book Pro if I leave it one for more than a couple of hours. It seems to be related to the Finder, because I can't get the Finder to relaunch. In addition, I can't restart, log out, or switch users.

You can force quit the machine by holding the power button/ToucID button for ~6-10 secs.

If that fails reset the the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

You can Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.
