iPhone 11 Pro wide angle stopped working

Hi,

Recently my wide angle camera function stopped working and when I open the camera app it automatically pops into 2x and only allows me to zoom out to 1x but not. .5(screen shots below), all options work on video. I’ve updated to latest iOS, restarted phone, closed and reopened camera still know luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I use the wide angle for work all the time.

Cheers Craig

I had this issue. No amount of reset/restoring fixed it. I chatted with apple tech support online. They ran a remote diagnostic. They confirmed there was something wrong. They scheduled an appointment for me at my local Best Buy. The tech there ran the same diagnostic test again... "CAMERA ISSUE REAR CAMERA WIDE ANGLE LENS NOT FUNCTIONING, IS NOT DETECTED IN MRI." The fix was a rear camera replacement, which Best Buy had in stock. It took about 45 minutes. It cost $109. I'm disappointed the camera stopped working after less than 2 years of gentle ownership. However, I am grateful that I did not have to mail the phone in. If reset/restore does not work for you, you will need to get your rear camera replaced. There is no other fix if your camera is not detected. Good luck!

Follow instruction on u/Timi1229:

Settings>General>reset>reset network settings

if that doesn’t work, call apple support and have them run a diagnostic. My other equipment has a camera sensor fail (hardware issue) and apple sent me a replacement unit under the warranty. The warranty equipment also had the wide eye lens issue that I was able to fix using the reset network settings.

hope you get it resolved!! Good luck

Guys I think that this isnt a hardware problem bcause:

When I am in video mode, 0.5 works, and if I take a video, I can take photos too with the photo button on the right of the video button.

I have tried all of these things (but I didn’t try pro camera) but they didn’t work.

I am trying now to install iOS 14 Public Beta 3 so the camera app will reinstall (I think?)

Hey all. Seems this is a hardware issue. I have the same problem and I took the phone to the local authorised service provider. They told me that Apple will be replacing my phone. So all of you waiting or hoping for a software fix, don't wait, especially if your warranty is about to expire. Take your phone to an Apple store or authorised service provider and have it checked.

After getting my phone replaced for this problem, I believe it’s a software issue that’s caused by a faulty signal to that camera lens or something. The Asurion replacement phone that I got also didn’t work right after I restored it from my backup, but by the next morning it magically sorted itself out and allowed me to use all 3 lenses. Like the software thought it didn’t work to begin with but then realized that it did.

Moral of the story - I think the only way to fix the problem is to get the phone replaced.

I ran into this issue as well. Went to an Apple Store and they ran a diagnosis and found it to be an issue with the camera. HOWEVER, I continued to have this issue on the new device they gave me after restoring from backup! I ran across this Reddit post and as crazy as the idea seemed (to pay for an install ProCamera), it actually worked! Hope this helps those of you. Keep in mind, it could be a hardware issue and then I don’t think this trick will work. Now to go request my refund…

I also had this issue. I tried to:

  1. update IOS. to the latest
  2. reset to factory setting
  3. I even tried using 3rd party apps to see if the wide angle will work and suspect a phone software issue

but these did not help.

I have a friend who knows how to open and fix iphone hardware. we found out that the flex cable of the wide angle is not securely attached. he disconnected and reconnected the flex cable and that fixed the issue.
