Hi,
Recently my wide angle camera function stopped working and when I open the camera app it automatically pops into 2x and only allows me to zoom out to 1x but not. .5(screen shots below), all options work on video. I’ve updated to latest iOS, restarted phone, closed and reopened camera still know luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I use the wide angle for work all the time.

I have a friend who knows how to open and fix iphone hardware. we found out that the flex cable of the wide angle is not securely attached. he disconnected and reconnected the flex cable and that fixed the issue.
Did you not get a new phone like many others? What did you try to make the camera app work?
I got My iPhone 12 pro max four days ago. The angular câmera stop to Work and there a Message saying That the câmera should bê not original . ????? Someone has the solution???
I sent the iPhone to Apple and They sent a new one for me.
I just got a replacement from the Apple store today and still had the same issue. They suggested a backup and total factory reset. Tried your solution and now it works!

@dgdp… please see previous posts. It has something to do with iCloud. Try disconnecting from iCloud and take a new phone (assuming you’re covered).
it is a software problem, so hardware change wont help. For me, installing Pro Camera, which I think was about $6 then restarting phone worked. It’s one suggestion made on this thread.

Didn't work for me.
but I'm able to use the controlled zoom from 0.5x to 12x on this app by moments.
Native app still stuck at 2x - 5x.
