watchOS 6.2 draining battery fast

I have an Apple Watch Series 4. It has always had good battery life. I usually go to bed at the end of a full day with greater than 30% battery left, sometimes greater than 50%. I updated to watchOS 6.2, and next day my battery was dead by the middle of the day. I tried turning off and on, but it didn't help. I tried erasing the Watch and reinstalling the OS. Seemed back to normal the next day. But every day since then, the battery life has gotten worse and worse. It can no longer make it through the day.

Was having same issue per previous posted. Updated to watchOS 6.2.1 (17T530) on April 9 and no longer having issue.

In fact, battery is lasting, or appears to be lasting longer.

April 11

7:31 - 100%

22:02 - 92%

Used watch for a 30 minutes of fitness with music and paired to AirPods.

Used watch multiple times during day for music and timers.

Today - watch is still at 100% after taking it off the charger around 8:00.

I have a series 4 and bought it back in December. Battery was fantastic. Since 6.2 the battery has been sporadically draining. Yesterday it seemed to work good and today I was at 85% two hours ago and now I’m below 45. I have updated to 6.2.1 and I haven’t really noticed any improvement. I have to charge at least twice a day now. If it wasn’t for Covid and the fact I’m at home all the time my watch would be almost unusable. My cousin who lives with us is having the same issues and is sending her watch in to Apple. Please address this soon!! I literally switched to Apple specifically for the watch

Hi all and thanks for posting regarding the battery issues of 6.2.1 (17T530)

I’m now on my 3rd Apple Watch 5 that’s been kindly replaced by my cellular provider EE and all watched have had this diabolical issue of battery drain .. all of the updates (6.0, 6.1 and now 6.2.1 (17T530)) have had terrible battery life issues (normally 8-10 hrs max with all the new features turned off including 4G cellular and very minimal apps ) and nothing has resolved this issue (on all 3 watches) also I’ve unpaired both Apple watches and iPhone and set all of them up as new ... I’ve also noticed a big battery drain on my iPhone overnight if wearing the watch to track my sleep and when wearing the watch over night with 8 hrs sleep the watch is completely dead when I wake up, another concerning issue is the battery charges up silly fast and then sticks on 96% for over an hour and I’ve had occasions when the watch reaches 50% it’s asking my to place the watch onto the charger as low battery is indicated ... I really don’t know what Apple are thinking About but they seriously need to get this issue fixed and sorted for once before I switch to Android just so I can have some reliability in just battery life reinsurance ... everything I own is an Apple product (iMac, MacBook Pro, HomePod, AirPods, PowerBeats3 Apple Watch 5) as I like to have everything linked but it’s getting to the stage where I feel Apple just does not care about its customers anymore and now this issue regarding the Apple watches battery life is pushing me further to the Android and windows end of the Spectrum as Apple products have started to behave like something that you buy From a cheapie Sunday market and as unreliable.

i do hope that Apple are listening to us and reading and taking note of what we are saying as I can see a lot of people vanishing from Apple products and sadly I’ll be one of them

I am also facing the same issue all of a sudden after the update to 6.2.1 on my Series 3 watch, and it has been more than 72 hours.

I actually didn't change my screen time much or how much I interact with the watch, if anything, I am doing less Workouts and using GPS less as of COVID-19 stay at home situation so I assumed my watch should live longer not shorter :(

We really need a quick hotfix 6.2.2 or something to address this issue :(

I spent an hour on the Apple Support chat yesterday. They didn’t manage to get beyond either send my watch off to them for repair (and pay) or take it into a store for the store to run diagnostic checks, neither of which were very helpful. I thought that they might at least have asked to view the diagnostic logs but they didn’t even bother with that. To say I wasn’t very impressed would be an understatement. I cannot go on with a watch which keeps shutting down like this. I’m been forced to go our and buy a new one. The only thing which is certain is that it won’t be an Apple one!

All worked for me perfectly as well ... BUT I had to setup both the Apple Watch and the iPhone as a new devices (didn’t work if I downloaded a previous iPhone and watch setting from iCloud ... only worked if set up as new devices!!)

im on day 2 and after taking my watch off charge last night At 1.10am this morning .... and as from 14.35 this afternoon I was still left with 85% battery remaining and I’ve upped my usage from yesterday and turned on always on display as from 7am this morning , so it’s doing great if not fantastic so far

Aubada.com ... have you tried it ? Honestly it’s worked for me and a friend with zero problems so far, another college has tried the beta 6.2.5 and there was no fix for the battery issue with that either, he’s tried it this way and he’s shocked that it worked for him as well.... a solution is a solution if it works , by the way make sure that you reset And setup both the Apple Watch and iPhone as new devices only , it didn’t work if you downloaded any of the previous setting that’s stored on the Icloud backup ... it’s honestly worth giving it a shot as it has been with myself and 2 other colleges that was experiencing this terrible issue ;)

KingOfHuns, I totally agree with you, we pay Apple enough for all of these devices for them to work properly, I’m only trying to help ppl to get a possible quick fix as there is nothing worst than expecting a product to last 18hrs and then to find out that it only lasts 8hrs at the most.... I’m sure Apple are on the case as we speak as they must of had so many returns of these Apple Watch’s (I’ve myself have returned 3 series 5’s in the last 4 to 5 weeks after tech support suggested that it was due to faulty battery’s ) this 4th watch was exactly the same to begin with until I did what I did just to problem solve as it was beyond my belief that all 4 watches had faulty battery’s.... fingers crossed that the fix from Apple is soon as I need to reload my previous iPhone setting from iCloud as I’ve lost so much after having to do this

Agree. Setting up the phone as new is a pain for those of us who use it for work and require a lot of authentication.

i have unpaired and paired the watch multiple times. It actually went back to normal randomly for 3-4 days and then draining like crazy.

service has been very slow to respond. They installed a profile on my watch but so far I’m not sure they have been able to get the Info back.

Definitely a watchOS 6.2 issue. Friend has same watch, running watchOS 6.1.3 (17S811) and not having issue.

Good news is current watchOS 6.2 I have installed does not cause fast battery drain, and watch lasts all day, but battery indicator is wrong.

Have not tried to unpair watch. Waiting for next update.

I have a pending iOS 13.4.5 Public beta release to install. 🤷🏼

Apr 20, 2020 5:52 AM in response to RyanSMN

I’ve had all the watchOS updates and not one did a thing to resolve the battery issue ... however after completely uninstalling both watch and iPhone and setting both up as NEW devices (and not downloading a setting from iCloud backup) did and has worked a treat (5-6 days now so far and it’s been excellent ) my only concern was that when I woke up this morning I noticed that my watch had drained down to 80% after 8hrs (my iPhone also drained after 8hrs to 87%) when I normally wake up after 8hrs and watch has had normally only dropped to 96% over the last 5-6 days and iPhone would have still been in 100% (in the Last 5-6days).... so I’m hoping that this might be a one off but I’m now anxious that the issue has returned (how I don’t know as no new apps etc has been download to either devices!!) ....

KingOfHuns

You was correct ... total waste of time doing a full reset and setting up as a brand new devices .... after 5-6 days of waking up to the watch being perfect at 96%, this morning I woke up to both iPhone and Apple Watch being back to its old self’s and guzzling battery (especially the watch) .... I’m back to loosing 10% minimum in every hour with the watch and my iPhone is loosing in between about 2% to 4% every hour (never had this on the iPhone ever)And I’ve not added any apps apart from fb and messenger that I did right from the start .... Apple really do need to get this sorted as it’s making me think about returning and just going out and buying all Samsung products.... the only thing that stopping me from doing that is the fact I’m sadly tied in the Apple eco (as I’ve got the iPhone, Apple watch, MacBook Pro, iMac, iPads, and HomePod all linked up) ... makes me furious that Apple hasn’t done a thing about the Apple Watch draining issue as of yet, surely the money that Apple tech guys are getting, at least one of them has the knowledge of getting this issue sorted before the series 5 gets replaced and made redundant like they did with the series 4 ... makes me laugh as one of their adverts stated the same battery life as the series 4 with the always on display on (a bit of misleading advertising going on there) I’m too scared to use the always on display as I know it’ll reduce my battery to about 4 hours the rate things are with the watch ..... Apple must have a record amount of returns regarding the series 5 as it’s the worst watch or software yet that’s been put into play by Apple
