watchOS 6.2 draining battery fast

I have an Apple Watch Series 4. It has always had good battery life. I usually go to bed at the end of a full day with greater than 30% battery left, sometimes greater than 50%. I updated to watchOS 6.2, and next day my battery was dead by the middle of the day. I tried turning off and on, but it didn't help. I tried erasing the Watch and reinstalling the OS. Seemed back to normal the next day. But every day since then, the battery life has gotten worse and worse. It can no longer make it through the day.

Well, I fixed mine. I did the unpair, repair, restore thing a couple times. I Did not have but one third party app linked to my watch. But just to be doing for a shot at . I did unlink that one app from my watch, fixed it. Now I'm back to getting avg of 24 hrs a day again. I pretty active so have AOD off. Its been working fine for right at 6 days now.

I also was getting random shut downs while that app was linked to my phone, no longer happens.

All's good again

My Watch is Series 5 on 6.2.1 ( 17T530 )

Phone 11 Pro Max is on 13.4.1 ( 17E262 )

Didn’t bother doing a reset on mine Yesterday as thought I’d se what happened if left alone ... but I did remove one sleep app (pillow) that I clocked had updated And to my amazement my phone and watch is back running brilliantly regarding the battery life (96% after 7 hrs overnight and iPhone 100% after 7 hrs overnight) .... I can only Assume that it’s the apps that’s causing the main issues and not the software or Watch itself or it could be a combination of the two, either way something needs to be done as it’s going to have a huge impact with everyone.... all I’ll say is that I’m going to have to limit the apps that’s on this iPhone that’s linked to this watch but Admittedly thats easy for me to do as I have several iPhones to play with (linked to 2 separate Apple accounts) when 95% of people will only have the one iPhone .... Apple and the app developers seriously need to get their heads together on this one otherwise Apple are going to have a massive decrease in sales of the watch and a massive increase in series 5 watch returns, I was planning on getting the new series 6 when it’s released but after the fiasco with this series 5 (and returning the other 3 due to suspected battery issues) I think that I’ll give it a big miss along with the new iPhone 12 pro that I planned on getting along with the series 6 ... I don’t know what’s going on with Apple products lately but they just seem to fail unlike the older models (even the new MacBook Pro’s Seem to just fail ... I’m rocking an older model MacBook after witnessing my parents new MacBooks fail time after time along with massive issues with the keyboards )

I just unpaired my series 5 and set it up as new and so far I see a difference I noticed that my cellular symbol on the pull down menu moved up top before it was all the way down bottom. So I’m guessing something was wrong.

so far I’ve been listening to music directly from watch for about 30 mins and my battery is still on 81% it was on 81% when I started.

before the unpair it would lose about 5% within The first 30 minutes of me taking of charger and me not doing anything. So far seems like it’s helping.

Apple definitely need to get their stuff together, there’s no reason we should have to go through all these hoops to get our watches to work as they should.

So hearing all the ways everyone is getting their watches to work correct again, makes me more sure its something with the watch update as well.

I already was not going to update my phone or watch, before had issues. Just because they have gotten to expensive to update every year and not enough bang for the buck on the slight difference it would be.

The Phones/ watches have more or less plateaued out. 5G means nothing to me,this early in the game .

Hope everyone gets their issues figured out and corrected

It's clearly the update. Every update gets a little worse. Prior to 6.2 my battery percentage at the end of the day would be in the high 40s. That was with a 45 minute workout. Now after 6.2 and 6.2.1 it's in the low 30s with the same usage. (I keep the Noise app disabled but everything else standard.) And prior to WatchOS 6 I could go two days, high 70s after the first day and 40s after the second. That's with a Series 4.

I'm not normally into conspiracy theories but coincidentally enough, the very day I post this comment my Apple Watch battery tanked like never before. 12% at 4:15 in the afternoon at the end of a 45 minute workout. And now the next day, 1:30 in the afternoon it's at 54% near the end of a normal work day where it's hardly been used, certainly no more than any other work day.

My series 5 has had horrible battery life since 6.2.1 update. I have not changed or added anything. Something I read said to turn off noise but made very little difference. Hard reset watch. Nothing works. Apple please update the watch to address this battery drain. I’m now at 43% around 1pm when I used to not even get that low by the end of a day. Most days now I come home with a dead watch. Geez ...What happened?

After my battery life really started going downhill as I reported the other day I tried the unpair/restore from backup some have suggested (minus the complete iPhone reset) and it looks like that has helped a lot. I don’t have a full day’s data to report yet but it looks promising. 78% at 2:20 in the afternoon and I get up early, as in 3:40, when it was 100%.

I’ve Now had 4 new Apple Watch 5 44mm replacements .... when you think that the watch is playing ball regarding to battery life it then all goes horribly wrong the next day and it always seems like after it’s been recharged !!??, the thing that I don’t understand is that it also effects the battery life of my iPhone, if battery life on the watch is stable it reflects a stable battery life on the iPhone BUT once the watch starts having poor battery the iPhone battery also decreases dramatically as well (tried and tested over the last month ... by taking the watch off full charge at night and leaving it over 7 hrs ) as a rule if the battery life on the watch is playing ball I’ll wake up to 96% on the watch and always 100% on the iPhone after a 7 hour period But if the battery decides to play silly’s devils then the watch will be at 30% and my iPhone battery will be around 70-80% after a 7 hour period, which leaves me to believe that there is Possibly some sort of conflict going on between the watch and the iPhone as it seems to be draining through whatever ..... Apple seriously needs to address this as I’m getting to the point of selling all of my Apple products (as the whole idea was to get into the Apple Eco system) and obviously that means the MacBook, iMac, iPhones(all 3 of them) HomePod, and the ipads will all go and I’ll just Adopt back into the Android and windows systems, which will at least give me the piece of mind when it comes to the reliability of its software and battery reliability.... I don’t know what’s going on with Apple but over the last year or so every product that they produce seems to be flawed in some way whether it’s the software, hardware, or even it’s casing there just seems to be something wrong and this is leaving me in a position that I’m waiting 4-6 months for all of the flaws to be announced in forums, the safest thing is that Apple just aren’t listening to its loyal customers in any shape or form and are just bundling out these products regardless........ APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING ???? ... LISTEN TO YOUR VALUED AND LOYAL CUSTOMERS PLEASE, BEFORE WE ALL DISAPPEAR !!!! (And don’t be ashamed to shout out for help to us Apple users either as a million brains are better than just a few!! )

On my watch ( 5 series) Watch battery was 96% at 9 am Saturday April 25th, to Sunday April 26th at 6:40 am the usage was ..... 7 hrs 44 minutes.. Standby was 21 hrs 40 minutes with battery at 14 % before back on charger.

On my Iphone Pro Max which I haven't been using quite as much , so just approaching Moderate use was Saturday April 25 8:30 am and at 96 % to Sunday April 26th at 7:30 pm battery was 22 % around 35 hrs ,,, screen time approaching 3 hrs.

The only thing I had affected was my by this weird bug was the watch and it now seems fine, after I removed that 3rd party app link from my phone to my watch . I still get the alerts of that weather app to my watch btw.

Hope everyone else gets theirs worked out til they get the issue fixed

I noticed on a previous post where it sounds like your battery level indicator is erratic. My wife's iPhone 6s (which she just replaced with the new SE) acted in a similar way. After just a little use the battery level would be way down. She'd charge it up in no time, etc. IDK for sure but I suspect that behavior is an indication of the battery reaching the end of its useful life.

One other idea that CDT2468 brings to mind is third-party apps. I think I only have one on my Apple Watch (or at least only consistently use one) but it seems evident from iPhone experience that a poorly designed third-party app could be eating up the battery as well. You might try removing them for a few days and see if one of them is the culprit.

I’ve factory reset both Apple Watch 5 and iPhone to brand new so many times now that I’ve lost count, it’ll all work fine until day three or 4 then it’ll start drinking juice like it was going out of fashion (and that’s on both the watch and iphone !!!) it’s got to the point where no matter what I do (as in full reset, force start etc) nothing changes, I’ve kind of given up if I’m totally honest as this is now my 4th replacement series 5, the only thing that I’ve got left to try is the watchOS 6.2.5 beta 2 to try but as I’ve said in other posts the confusing thing is that the iPhone that’s linked to the watch also drains ridiculously (iPhone 8 plus, iPhone SE, iPhone XR and now on a iPhone 11 Pro) so I’m not convinced that it’s just the watch’s software but possibly the iphones ios (or a conflict between the two) ... as I’m running both as totally bog standard with NO other apps running apart from the original pre-installed Apple apps and it’s still draining as quick as if I had other apps .... I’m quite tempted to buy the series 3 to see if that does the same (my old series 3 had amazing battery life ) .... let’s just pray that when the new watchOS 7 is released that, it’ll be better as worried that with apples past history things might be worst in order to get us all running to buy the series 6 .... if a fix isn’t in place soon I’m washing my hands with Apple which would be a shame as I’ve stuck with Apple since the original iPhone One was released and have built up quite a big Apple eco line up

I do apologise for my small outburst regarding Apple products but when you spend not hundreds but thousands of pounds you expect them to work properly and not something that you’ve bought that was made in the back streets of China.... I do admit that my posts are long but I’m trying to work on a self fix or to find out what could be causing the issues and I feel like I need to explain a possible fix in context instead of short hand ... as this could possibly help ppl that’s not that tech minded so maybe it’ll work for some and if that’s the case then I’m happy ... and if you say is true about Apple not caring about any of us then why the **** are we all still buying these products ??? ... also may I ask who you are, to tell me what to write and how to write it and how long to write it etc ..... and have you Yourself come to any possible solutions yet !!!???
