watchOS 6.2 draining battery fast

I have an Apple Watch Series 4. It has always had good battery life. I usually go to bed at the end of a full day with greater than 30% battery left, sometimes greater than 50%. I updated to watchOS 6.2, and next day my battery was dead by the middle of the day. I tried turning off and on, but it didn't help. I tried erasing the Watch and reinstalling the OS. Seemed back to normal the next day. But every day since then, the battery life has gotten worse and worse. It can no longer make it through the day.

There are a large variety of responses on here with a variety of software versions. The newest version is 6.2.5. Has this update fixed the battery problem or does it still exist? I have 6.2.4 on my Series 2 watch and fixed the problem with a un pair - repair and its ok now but aim wondering if its safe to upgrade to 6.2.5. If you have updated to 6.2.5 what are your results??

I’ve had the same problem with the battery, it’s better, but not as it was.

this is what I did.

I paired the Watch with my wifes iPhone X

Surprise... the battery was fine, (same settings)

With my iPhone XS Max the battery drain overnight was from 100% to 30%. With my wifes 100-75.

So I paired it again with my phone. DRAIN AGAIN.

It must be something with my iPhone and not only with the watch. So I tried reset network settings and its better.

Now the battery holds a bit longer. Is not the same as it was before the updates but its usable. Overnight goes from 100 to 65%

Hi,

I had the same issue and had to go thru and turn everything off.

(In my opinion), It seemed to me the update turned all the energy piggies on - LOL ... now my watch3 lasts almost 24 hours - wow!

(OS 6.2.5)

Oh my... I should have been more specific, Sorry.

I used my iphone and turned off all the apps on my watch. I only have the bluetooth connection to my iPhone selected. WiFi is always looking for a signal. There are others that use energy "refreshing in the background" - I turned off that feature. I am sure if you look further you can find more. I decided I did not need to have it "check" for something every minute. I turn off the cell svc when I have my iPhone with me-that saves energy.

I hope that clears up my post.

Thank you for suggesting I clarify my post.

After 6.2.5 update, battery life was horrible. After trying many different "fixes", I deleted all watch backups on the iphone, unpaired the watch, repaired and setup as new, did not install all compatible apps, and turned off background updating. I also reset network settings on the iPhone.

Battery life is back to normal. I will begin to add apps and turn on other things to see if anything causes a battery issue and report back.

And now it’s stuck and won’t charge.I saw a YouTube blog where the guy said to let your watch run all the way down until there is no battery at all. Meaning, when you push the button and you don’t get the time. Well, mine has been off the charger for over five days now. It’s stuck in low power mode and it still shows the time. That’s amazing. I guess my battery is OK, just something’s draining it.

I called apple support today since my series 4 is still covered under apple care so they are sending me a new watch I only have 11 basic applications running and my Dexcom app with approx 90% free memory not being used on my watch. I had recharged it again before the call and after 30 mins off the charger (100%) the watch was all ready down to 94% and all I was doing was sitting on the couch with the watch on my wrist.

Mine is a series 2 and out of support. I’m trying to avoid buying a new watch since this seems to be a systemic issue across all series. Hopefully they’ll get it fixed in the next release. I have no external apps installed and all battery hogs turned off. Latest WatchOS. iPhone XR current release. I made the mistake of letting battery go down to low power reserve where it’s now stuck. I should have switched to airplane mode when it hit 15%, but I got distracted. Hopefully a total battery drain will allow it to recharge as usual. 🤞

I would never let it run all the way down to where battery percent is not showing digits on the battery . Once mine got low enough it went to battery saving mode.

But I try to not let mine get below 18 % as the lowest percent. I'm pretty active and still mine last anywhere from 18 to 25 hrs depending on what I do that day

How long have you left it on charger to see if it gets out of low power mode ?

If nothing else works you may wish to call Apple support

So, just like the thousands of others here, by the time I updated to 6.2.4 on my 11 month old Apple Watch 4, I used to have at least 30-40% batter left. Then the update and by 8:00 pm (14 hours use), I was down to 10% reserve and with each update through 6.2.6, it got worse every week.

I received the replacement yesterday and after pairing it to my phone, it wanted to update to 6.2.6 but I did not let it. It shows it is on 6.2 (factor I guess as being shipped). I charged to 88% at 1:30 pm upon arrival and at 10:30 pm there was still over 78% battery left. Less than 10% drain over 9 hours. Today, I took it off the charger at 5:30 am, did my 40 minute bike ride tracking with the watch and here at my desk at 2:22 pm (8 hours) I have 86% left. I have two active email boxes in the notifications and text. No phone calls yet today. All settings are factory with no added apps yet. I have the display on half brightness and auto activate upon arm elevation.

You decide what the problem is, but it sure seems like software / OS. I have not updated my phone to the most recent OS either but had not with the old watch and the old problems. There is no way my batter was weak or bad after 9 months and then all of a sudden no 14 hour life.

And FYI, I tried all the tricks you great people have posted and none worked for me.

Been to apple support. They were less than useless. I didn't intentionally let it go to low power mode. The first time (last week) it happened after 7 hours off charger. I reset, unpaired, repaired and it finally charged. This time I missed the window to switch to airplane mode and avoid low power model and now it won't recharge. I left it on the charger overnight, wouldn't charge. I'm in the process of trying this fix. My phone finally went to red lightening bolt with charging cable this morning....after 5 days. Waiting for it to die completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZyOHCy4pMA iWatch Series 2, WatchIOS 6.2.5 iPhone XR 13.4.1

Over the last week I have been having some serious battery drain issues with my series 5 watch (updated to 6.2.6). Today , as well as one day earlier this week I was down to 36% by mid-afternoon with no extra or unusual activity. I unpaired and then repaired the watch as a new watch a few days ago, and it just happened again. Turned off both watch and phone, and turned them on again and re-charging the phone now. This is incredibly frustrating.
