A lot depends on the monitors. The CalDigit TS3 has a DisplayPort and a Thunderbolt 3 port. Each of those can support a monitor, but if you do not have a monitor that takes TB3 you will need another adapter.
I have the CalDigit TS3. I like it for all the USB ports and the Ethernet port.
I have a DisplayPort going to a 32" 4K DELL monitor (Sweet display).
The other Thunderbolt 3 port goes into a TB3-to-DVI adapter, that then drives an old Samsung 1080p monitor.
I'm using a Late 2016 15" Macbook Pro with touchbar. I cannot drive 4 monitors, but I do well with just 2, with the 32" DELL being my main monitor, and the Samsung being a secondary monitor for stuff I want up all the time, but I'm not staring at it all the time either.
To drive monitors 3 and 4, you would need either 2 more adapters for ports on your Mac, or another Dock that support 2 monitors.

I’d look at purchasing a desktop; a computer with better support for and more ports for this application.
