Having problem setting up iPad Pro (4th gen).

I'm having a problem setting up my new iPad Pro (4th gen).

I want to restore from a backup of my old iPad. So Finder recognizes the new iPad when I connect it up, and I tell it I want to restore from a backup, then click that I've read the terms and conditions. But when I continue, the ipad immediately vanishes from the finder sidebar and nothing happens. I'm running Catalina if this helps

Never mind, I fixed it.

I had to first set up the iPad as a new device. THEN I tried restoring from backup, and it worked.

I'm a bit flummoxed as to why this happened, but it all worked out in the end.
