Watch update 6.2 fails at "verifying"

2nd generation stainless steel watch model MNPU2LL/A. When update 6.2 first showed up, the watch did not auto-update over several weeks despite it being on the charger overnight, with my iPhone on its charger right nearby. When I tried manual update, it failed, repeatedly, at verifying.

I tried turning off both watch and phone, then turning them back on. Fail. I tried running the update on the watch itself. Fail.

I then did a reset of the watch hoping that would purge whatever update code wouldn't verify. After full reload of the watch, the update 6.2 showed. When I started the update, I had hope... I had the little progress bar, and it was "preparing." Left the watch on the charger with my phone nearby. Came back an hour later, and it showed update 6.2 was available to install. When I clicked install, got the same problem - sat on "verifying" for a long time before coming back with an error.

Not sure what to try next.

I had exactly the same problem. I tried everything. In the end I found a post which said instead of trying the update from the phone run the update from the watch. Go to settings on your watch and find the software update bit much the same was as you would on the phone and run the update. It worked for me no problem. Not sure why there is a problem running this from the phone but running from the watch seems to fix it, at least it did for me.
