Why do I hear previous take when recording?

In Logic Pro 10.4.8 I record audio. I stop recording. I start recording again on the same track (same starting point as before). It creates a new take (good, that's what I want). BUT I can hear the previous take (I DON'T want that. [does anyone want that??]). WHY is this even possible?! Isn't the whole idea of creating takes that you want to make multiple independent recordings of the same part of a song without reference to the previous take(s) so you can later select the best parts from all the takes?

Please DON'T tell me to UNcheck software monitoring. I've seen software monitoring work a thousand times (literally) just fine without experiencing the above issue. This is not typically what happens, but somehow this project has gotten into a state where this is happening. How can I make it so I don't hear the previous takes when recording a new take? Thank you in advance.

I found the answer. I had duplicated another vocal track that had the Melodyne ARA plugin on it and I hadn't thought to power it off or remove it. When it's on, you can hear the previous take. When it's off you can't.

Thanks @Iaamusic for the time you spent trying to help figure it out!

The preferences are to create a take folder whether cycle is on or off. I'm not using cycle mode. But when I turn cycle mode on I can still hear the previous take when doing a new take. (this is true for any combination of cycle/autopunch for that matter, and even when cycle starts before autopunch, which supposedly fixed this issue for someone else.).

Opinion: If I were designing the UI / writing the code for this and variables were set that allowed you to hear previous takes while recording a new take, I would be throwing up some big yellow or red in-your-face warning or button or something saying, "Settings X, Y and Z are set so you will hear previous takes while recording a new take, which you typically don't want to hear. Do you want to disable that?"

I admit I'm just a lowly, simple home recorder and I don't know a lot, so I am open and interested in knowing if my perspective is off on this, and if there are legitimate times when you do want to hear the previous take when recording a new one. I could see it maybe when doing vocal doubles and you like a previous take and know you want to use it as one of the doubles, but this seems it would be secondary functionality at most and definitely not the default for doing takes.
