Catalina upgrade

This version of macOS 10.15.4 cannot be installed on this computer. What on my computer is generating this response.. If something was upgraded on my computer, like the hard drive, would I be able to install the Catalina version, anyone know..

I have no plans on tossing my computer, which is equipped with a CD rom, to another MAC lacking a CD rom.. Not to mention my computer works perfectly fine, just upgraded the ram to 16GB..

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Hi there, craigjf 1, maybe I can help you.....

the reason you're getting that message is that Catalina has certain requirements. and/or, you're not signed up with the Apple Beta Program. The most current version of Catalina is 10.15.3.... and anything else is a beta. seeing as how you have a MacBook Pro, the requirements for that are one from Mid 2012 or newer. You can find out the date of manufacture by going to the large Apple Icon at the top left of your screen, then going to "About this Mac", which should give you a rough model number. Remember that number, and using your Web Browser, go to everymac.com, and type it in under the "Search" window, which will bring up the stats for that model of MacBook Pro. The official way to do it is to grab a copy of Catalina from the App Store. If it doesn't want to install right off the bat, you could try doing a reset smc/pmu and zap pram, then trying to install it. How to do the reset smc/pmu and zap pram can be found on Apple's support page for Notebooks, or if you know the model number, google or yahoo can help you out there, too...

There is an unofficial way, but I can't talk about it here.

good luck

Thanks John, I tried resetting the SMC, and did a zap pram reset, and then went to apps and tried to download Catalina and I got the same error, " This version of macOS 10.15.4 cannot be installed on this computer.".. My Mac is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) model.. Any other suggestions, should I call you? I know you mentioned an unofficial way of doing it..

thanks for you help,

Craig

Ok, so is this the way Apple is trying to get me to buy another computer, by making mine obsolete? My Mac book pro is perfectly fine, and it was just upgraded with 16GB of ram. I was even going to upgrade the hard drive with a solid state, and now Apple is making my Mac Pro obsolete. Anyway we can upgrade this Mac book pro? I am holding onto it because I like the internal cd rom. I don’t like the new Mac book pro’s with no cd rom.

Anyway we can upgrade this Mac book pro, so it can handle the latest operating system?

Why is your computer suddenly obsolete? I have 2 Macs, both running OS 10.14, not because they aren’t capable of 10.15. I tried 10.15, and it provided absolutely nothing in the way of an upgrade, and took away oh so much. I reverted to 10.14, and will leave both computers at that version.

If you truly believe this is Apple’s way of trying to get you to buy a computer, allow me to ask a question. Would you support a company that uses such tactics? Do you know any informed shopper that would? I certainly wouldn’t support such behaviour, and know no one that would. Doesn’t seem like a great marketing strategy to me.

Edit to add: It would need to be a 2012 model (9.1 or 9.2) or newer.

What would anyone conclude if you go to download the newest operating system and you find out that your computer is not supported? A computer that had plenty of memory and ram? After doing some research from dosdude he is saying my computer is supported. But Apple is saying my computer isn’t supported, so I ask Apple, what is going on? Is my computer supported or is it not? Read my previous posts for my computer model number.

No, it is not. This is apples way of telling you that you computer is not powerful enoug to handle all the new features. Considering that you have able to upgrade a 2011 model for a great number of yours that should tell you that Apple do not stop upgrades just because they feel like it. Afraid nothing lasts for every, an no machine is powerful enough to be upgraded for ever.
