I have now received a new MacBook Air 2020 but the camera quality is the same. The MacBook Air 2020 has just an incredibly bad camera. I think we are left with 3 options:

  1. Get a different computer
  2. Use your iPhone camera which needs to get connected to the MacBook Air with the help of a supporting App
  3. Buy an external webcam

Did they say when they’re coming in? I sent the MacBook Air 2020 I purchased in July back to exchange for another they said would be better. I received a new MacBook Air 2020 yesterday and it is exactly the same with the same horrible camera. I considered buying a refurbished 2019 or 2018 but unfortunately the reviews for those cameras are also really bad. UGH- It doesn’t feel like it should be this hard to get a camera that is at least as good as my 2015 MacBook Air .

want to throw it in the bin You will soon realise you need another camera and that means both thunderbird c inputs are not enough one for camera one for power. Then you realise the thunderbird c are not multifunctionsl so you need 4 or 5 as you need one for abackup hard drive and another for a POV camera and another for an iPad pen. Just wait until the colleges go back or not and everyday is online lectures Apple will be in really big trouble.

Good Luck

I recently purchased a MBA and am so disappointed that the camera is so horrible. Called customer service and they were like, "oh that's too bad your camera doesn't work, neither do any of the new MBA's". If i had read this thread before, I would have not purchased. I have a MBP from 2010 and the camera works far better. Now I'm forced to use my old computer to do webcam conferences and do work off two different computers.

Another poor hapless member of the public who has discover Apple has sold a you a useless product.

I have had to buy an expensive Logitech 4K external webcam which is wide angle and magnetic which works excellently and shows just how poor is the onboard camera

However because the wretched Air has only two thunderbolt 3 ports any other functionality such external memory links to iPad extra screen for long periods while charging is just not possible It’s a dud

The most iniquitous aspect is that during Covid this product is being advertised for students. This laptop diminishes their personal online presence and ability to see teaching resources clearly Not good for learning or well-being

The camera really is the biggest disappointment. You'd think by 2020 a camera could at least show a non-grainy reflection. I have a clean camera but it requires a blinding amount of light to even make my face look clear. I hope Apple will replace these cameras for free in all the MacAir 2020's. I've yet to meet anyone who's bought this computer who hasn't complained about the camera. Especially when virtual communication is so important right now.
