Since installing Mojave, keyboard doesn't behave as expected

Since installing Mojave, many keys do different things than they used to. For instance, the Delete key now deletes the character BEHIND the cursor rather than in front of the cursor; the Return key raises the volume etc. There are many of these new irritations.

I'm using an older, wired keyboard.

This keyboard has been ruined, it appears. It does the same things on other computers I attach it to.

It IS possible that a software installation can ruin things which are attached to it. This thread is now closed, as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who finds this thread can know they aren't crazy, installing your software may be the cause of your keyboard failure. Buy a new keyboard and pretend it's just the price of progress.

If another keyboard works as expected then it tells you that something is wrong with the original keyboard.

Could someone in your household have spilled something on it and covered up the crime.

You may just have to buy a new keyboard, I bought this keyboard for my mac,

Wait — you're suggesting that I have to buy a new keyboard simply because I upgraded to Mojave? I've upgraded to Mojave on other identical machines, and it didn't cause any problem...

I mistyped earlier. This is the keyboard that came with my iMac in 2016. It's my work iMac I'm using an older keyboard on. Ironically, didn't have any issues upgrading to Mojave on that one.

Nobody touches my keyboard. Nobody has spilled anything on it, and it worked perfectly up until the exact moment I upgraded. And it's not completely unusable. It's just maddening — especially while using Final Cut Pro and making subtitles. I now have to use several keys very differently — some keys do different things than they used to and another couple actually do two things simultaneously. Return key returns and increases the volume one tick, for example. Several ticks and I have to manually lower the volume. I had to do that about 25 times yesterday. Not a deal-breaker, but distracting.

Can the act of installing Mojave actually ruin a keyboard? Does it treat keystrokes in a different way? Specifically, does anyone know why the act of upgrading to this OS would affect a keyboard?

No upgrading to Mojave would not affect the keyboard, you would see a lot of other people posting about that if it were true.

And also you have ascertained that another keyboard works perfectly well. You have also said the you have upgraded other

identical machines without issue.

You could try cleaning the keyboard, be very careful and gently prise off each key and either use a soft brush or

compressed air to get rid of the remnants of egg sandwiches.
