Zoom Connectivity

Why can't I connect to zoom via my Mac Book Pro? When I log into Zoom for a meeting, I get the Join a Meeting box after I enter my meeting information. Once I try to join the meeting, I get the Join a Meeting box with a "Connecting" circle and the app never connects to the meeting and the program locks up. Only way out is to force quit. I've tried to go into preferences and make sure this is allowed in the security settings but something is blocking this program.
