USB-C Max resolution limited to 1080

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and an Agon AOS AG493UG7R4 monitor.

There is a setting that allows you to treat it as two separate monitors from two different inputs.

I was able to get it working fine with my two WIndows machines via DisplayPort but my MacBook is setup with USB-C. Based on all the documentation on the monitor and for the MacBook it should run at max 3840x1440 but I just want it to run at 2650x1440 which it will not do either. Settings on the monitor are just fine. I just can't get it over 1080.

I also tried using a USB-C to Diplayport cable (not an adapter) and a USB-C adapter to HDMI and all limit to 1080

Running OS Version 10.15.4 (19E264b) with Graphics: Radeon Pro 560 4 GB

Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.15

Hello, curtdragon.

I understand that you are unable to get your monitor to display at the correct resolution with your 2017 MacBook Pro. I’m glad you took the time to post and am happy to look at this with you.

The Apple Support article, Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac, has a lot of useful information for this type of issue.

I wanted to ask if you encounter the same thing when you connect your MacBook Pro directly to the monitor as opposed to it also being connected to the PC. Knowing this will help isolate the behavior.

I hope this helps.

Be Well.

curtdragon,

You are correct. In most cases, drivers install automatically or are included as part of a software update. Though, it never hurts to check! I would suggest you check to see if there are any updates available for your Mac. How to update the software on your Mac

Beyond updating your Mac, you might go ahead and reach out to Agon support to gather their product specific input. I've pulled up their support page and have linked it for you below.

I have the exact same problem with my 2019 16" MacBook Pro. My Windows computer works great with the monitor using the monitor's native resolution (5120x1440 @ 120Hz), but the resolution on my 16" MacBook Pro does not allow the native resolution and only lists 3840x1080 (by clicking with the "Option" key on the Scaled Resolution selection in the Display properties).

I have installed SwitchResX which is setup to use the native display resolution , but the it seems a bit blurry and flickers sometimes.

The monitor drivers pointed out in the prior message are for Windows only and my macOS is fully up to date (10.15.4)

Based on my hardware details, my MacBook Pro should handle up to two 6K displays (6016x3384), why does the resolution not work natively in macOS with this monitor?

I am using a full TB3 cable to connect directly, and again, my Windows 10 computer works great with the proper resolution.

Can anyone help? Can I use my Joint Venture support or my company Apple relationship to speed up this resolution in some way?
