I am looking at buying the Apple Watch 5 series. I want to use it when I go for runs and not have to take my phone with me. This includes tracking my runs and listening to music. I have Spotify Premium - is there a way to listen to songs on the Apple Watch 5 GPS only whilst on my run. Can I download my Spotify playlists to the watch.

Another major unsupported feature is the inability to store music on your Apple Watch and listen offline. That means runners or underground commuters, for example, can’t store playlists on the Apple Watch for when they're on the move.
We’d suspect this will be the next feature to drop, but there’s no timescale on when that might happen.

I suspect that it’s apple blocking this feature. Should be a simple thing to develop at Spotify end. No plans going over to Apple Music...
Pandora has an app and was not blocked why do you think Spotify is? Are Pandora programmers better than the one's at Spotify?
Apple added the means for third party streaming a year ago. As I’ve previously said Pandora had their app available when it was released. So how is Apple blocking 3rd parties from streaming?

Buy a Garmin Fenix 6. I’ve just got the Tactix Delta Solar, you can download up to 2,000 songs from Spotify Premium to the watch and leave your phone at home.
It works with Garmin Fenix 6 pro, I hope it will work with Apple Watch soon

i have series 6 watch cellular and am I phone 11 on virgin with unlimited data. How do I get the data plan from my phone to work on my watch so when I run I don’t have to take my phone
Me to!!!!! grrrrrrr... watch going back, sod getting an Apple Music subscription.
Same for me!! I want to listen to music, leave phone at home. So bloody annoying that I can’t use Spotify or Amazon music. And I’m not getting Apple Music. So phone goes back. Shame
I will not purchase Apple Watch for this very reason.
