I'm attempting to download iMovie essentially for the first time. I'm sure my 2017 macbook pro came with it, but I must have deleted it at some point. Everything on the internet points me to the Apple app store, but the iMovie available there says "iMovie can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because macOS version 10.14.6 or later is required."
How do I get up to 10.14.6? I'm basically technologically illiterate. thanks.

Try the following procedure that should get you the highest iMovie version that your operating system will run:
To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the
trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder. However, it should work and you will have your iMovie 10 back.

My Mac version is 10.13.6 and it can't uploud anymore. if I want to download iMovie it need 10.14.6 . Is there any solution that I can do to download iMovie . thanks.

That method on stack exchange had an error at step 5.... the error said "Archive Utility - Unable to expand "Payload.zip" into "iMovie9.0.9Update.pkg". (Error 32 - Broken pipe.)
# 5. Unpack `Payload.zip` (it will get named `Payload 2`)
open ~/Downloads/iMovie/iMovie9.0.9Update.pkg/Payload.zip
This solution did not work at all. I lost my current version of iMovie which is not supposed to be compatible with High Sierra when I placed it in the trash. I checked the trash to make sure it was there, but it was gone. Then, when I went to try to download it again, the app store app would not allow me to download it even though it was listed in my purchases. Beware!
the issue is that the mac in question can not update to mojave
is there a way to download legacy versions of imovie?
Yeah, it does look rather complicated. But, hey, if it works so be it. :)

My purchased section still shows nothing, yet i now have imovie on both my phone and ipad with the same appleID...?
iMovie for iPad and iPhone iOS is an entirely different app than iMovie for Mac. Because you can get iMovie for iOS doesn't mean that you can get iMovie for Mac.
