"Press Home to Recover"

iOS: 13.4

Device: iPhone 7

  • Triggered by either factory restore or iOS update.
  • Prompted with a white screen that says "Press Home to Recover"
  • Unable to access command center or notification center.
  • Unable to power off device by pressing and holding power button.
  • Upon pressing home button, prompted to enter an alphanumeric PASSCODE (again, passcode, not password).
  • No such passcode is known by device owner.
  • Force restarting device prompts same white screen with "Press Home to Recover".

Possible ransomware attack through firmware or SIM?

Anyone else experience anything like this?

As far as I can tell this is a very recent and new occurrence with iOS 13.4. Any ideas?

Try this --> If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ...

Connect iPhone to Computer / Mac

Use your USB lightening cable --> Resolve USB-related alerts in iTunes - Apple Support

If unable to connect --> If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Use genuine cable --> Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories ...

If you are not the owner then there is no way that you can get into this iPhone unless the original owner shares the Apple ID and password with you. If you are lucky you can get into this iPhone if they (owner) accidentally remove the device from their apple ID.

If you are the owner then to open Activation Lock:- If it is Activation locked, read here --> Turn off Activation Lock - Apple Support Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
