Apple sent left AirPod with 2D3 firmware

Apple sent me a replacement left AirPod with 2D3 firmware which has not been released yet. So it will not pair up with my existing right one. I need AirPods that match or they are useless. I paid $69 plus tax for a useless left AirPod. Please advise.

The only fix is to ask for a Senior support person and tell them to send you a new set including the case. They will take out a hold in your credit card and once you receive the the pair and the return FedEx label you need to send back the old pair in the same box. I had to call them a bunch of times to get that return label. It comes via email from FedEx - not from Apple. The new set came with both on 2D3.

So as of today after communicating with Apple Support for a month, Apple is sending me a new set of AirPods today. I have had 2 replacement cases and 3 sets of left and right replacement AirPods for the past and none of them worked because they kept sending me the 2d3 firmware ones that wouldn’t pair. Thank God I was able to research the issue myself and finally figure out was wrong. This time they are sending me new AirPods without putting a hold on my account. Looks like Apple is finally acknowledging this issue. The 2nd Apple Support Senior Advisor said today Apple is trying to collect all of the 2d3 firmware AirPods back now, so I would try giving them a call back. This has been so aggravating and some days wasted hours of my time, but hopefully this issue will be finally resolved.

After weeks of trying to pair a couple diff 2D3 replacements, then realizing when this discussion started that it was impossible, I convinced my Apple Support Tech of the issue and had a week of waiting for a Senior Tech to call me. She then said they are trying to collect all the 2D3s out there (?). She has said she is sending me a complete AirPod set at no cost for all my trouble. I do not have them yet, mind you, but am hopeful.

I am under the year warranty still, but that hasn’t come up except when I was getting the single replacements (2D3) over a month ago.

I also have this issue. Has been going on over a month and a half. Plenty of replacements sent back and forth from Apple. After speaking with senior advisor and engineering, they have requested that I send the whole set back to them and they will send a brand new sealed replacement set. They sent me a fed ex label to send it back. Well I did that and they received them back and last Friday sent me an email that my new set “ will ship soon “. Well as of this writing they still haven’t shipped.

In a time when we are working from home, I need these more for video conferencing than for music. Apple has really let me down this time.

You are right. Apple dropped the ball.

Only one or two affected have said they have their new working set.

Very bad timing for the molasses getting up to speed, & I’m not even sure most techs know about 2D3 yet. Solution far from streamlined.

I had to send in my left 2D3 replacement before they would send new set. Apple also received mine last Friday & no news of shipping to me.

I've had several replacements and they all come with the left AirPod with the unreleased firmware. I’ve been battling with Apple for 3 weeks now and the techs say they have no idea what I’m talking about. I reached out to every tech magazine and reporter I could and finally it’s getting some attention but not from Apple. See my story here. https://www.imore.com/apple-shipping-single-replacement-airpods-new-unreleased-firmware-and-people-cant-use-them

I just wanted to add my voice to the group who has ordered a replacement and received one with the 2D3 firmware. Thus, it won't pair with the existing airpod. I did contact apple support and after 45 minutes they agreed to send me two new airpods (one L one R). They arrived today...the left is 2D3 and the right is 1A691. So again, they won't pair with eachother and I get the flashing amber light with no ability to reset it to white. But I have two single working airpods. I don't know what to do now.
