Apple sent left AirPod with 2D3 firmware

Apple sent me a replacement left AirPod with 2D3 firmware which has not been released yet. So it will not pair up with my existing right one. I need AirPods that match or they are useless. I paid $69 plus tax for a useless left AirPod. Please advise.

The only fix is to ask for a Senior support person and tell them to send you a new set including the case. They will take out a hold in your credit card and once you receive the the pair and the return FedEx label you need to send back the old pair in the same box. I had to call them a bunch of times to get that return label. It comes via email from FedEx - not from Apple. The new set came with both on 2D3.

I am in the exact boat! My airpods that  I brought directly from Apple less than a week ago worked fine for 2-3 days max. Then one day they just stopped pairing (reset and forgot from the device 5000 times). I got onto apple and they offered to replace both left and right airpod's. I got my replacement today and the same issue persists!!!!! I am beyond furious!  I rang support earlier today. He explained to me that the issue is that the Firmware is not matching up with both airpods my left one has the 2d3 firmware.... He told me that he will place a 'update' on my airpods and to let them charge for 30 mins. I left them for charge beside my phone for 45 mins! I then reset the pairing and tried... Same issue! Not to mention I had to pay €150 charge to get these brand new airpods replaced which will then be 'released back into my bank account once i return my faulty ones within 10 days' I hope they understand there may be a delay with post due to the world pandemic!!! absolutely shocking!!!  I would rather buy 10£ ones from china that would probably work flawlessly than give this Trillion dollar company any more of my hard earned money! shocking!

That being said I did use to work for Google Nest as a support agent. Anytime anything like this would happen with any sort of software issues/updates the engineers would be right on it and either update the product or else replace the products with the correct software. So fingers cross this happens for us Army of 2D3 victims!!!

Nothing special, I was using only one of them at a time. Last night I connected them, maybe they release the update. I followed this steps

  1. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the "i" icon  next to your AirPods.
  3. Tap Forget This Device, then tap to confirm.
  4. Place both AirPods in your charging case. Close the lid, wait 30 seconds, then open it.
  5. Press and hold the setup button for a few seconds, until you see the status light flashing white.
  6. Reconnect your AirPods by placing them close to your device and opening the lid.
