After a recent update to Catalina 10.15.4, the iSight Camera in my Apple Cinema Display is malfunctioning...works on occasion only (FaceTime, Photo Booth, Zoom).
Found a temporary fix that I have to repeat:
Force Quit the VDCAssistant background process
Terminal: sudo killall VDCAssistant
sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant
Anyone else handling this 1st world problem??

Sure did..worked with Apple Support for > 3 hrs - Clean re-install of OS - Supplemental Update - tried everything.
Camera would work but once program closed, unable to get it to work again without the Terminal Commands.
Frustrating but not an important issue.

A similar problem! For the fourth day I've been trying to solve this problem. Support says hardware failure.
But before the installation of 10.15.4, everything worked.
An additional update is also installed.
I would encourage to send a feedback/bug report to Apple https://www.apple.com/feedback/
Thousand of Mac users have the same issue and Apple seems doesn't know what to do.
I have to same issue- error msg: camera not working.
apple often makes updates the make previous, perfectly working software and equipment obsolete. not loving it
