ASUS Monitor has limited functionality

I recently purchased an ASUS VA32UQ monitor to use with a 2017 MBP.

When I use the monitor over HDMI, I can easily change the monitors settings via the settings toggle on the right hand side of the monitor, though I can only use the monitor at 4k 30fps.

When I use the monitor over a usb-c to displayport cable, I'm locked out of most of the monitor's settings, and can no longer adjust brightness or other basic functions, though I can use the monitor at 4k 60fps.

Does anyone know why I can no longer adjust the monitor's brightness when using a usb-c to displayport cable / what I can do to fix it?

Are these Apple branded adapters?

Try a different adapter to test is all you can do in an effort to trouble shoot your issue—eliminate the obvious first.
